New ADB Leader Vows Integrity and Staff-Focused Reforms

New Leadership for ADB PMSU

The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) Professional and Managerial Staff Union (PMSU) has entered a new era of leadership and collaboration following the election of James Obeng-Gyan as Chairman. His appointment marks a significant milestone for the union, with expectations that it will lead to enhanced staff welfare, stronger internal unity, and improved relations between management and the union.

At the bank’s 3rd Quadrennial Delegates Conference, Mr. Obeng-Gyan delivered an acceptance speech outlining his vision for the next four years. The theme of his address was “A decade of solidarity, a future of impact: Repositioning ADB PMSU for member value and institutional excellence.” In his speech, he expressed gratitude to the members for their trust and emphasized that his leadership would be guided by integrity, courage, and transparency.

He highlighted that the strength of ADB lies in its people and stressed that unionism should not be perceived as opposition to management but rather as a strategic partnership in driving the bank’s growth. “The PMSU is not an opponent of management; we are partners in building a stronger ADB,” he stated.

Four Pillars of Action

Mr. Obeng-Gyan introduced a four-pillar agenda aimed at deepening solidarity, promoting professional excellence, advancing evidence-based advocacy, and reinforcing staff welfare as a long-term investment in the institution’s performance. He committed to promoting operational transparency, establishing structured dialogue with management, and forming a Standing Joint Negotiation Committee to resolve outstanding issues.

He also paid tribute to previous union leaders, acknowledging their contributions in laying a strong foundation that now needs to be reinforced with renewed dedication. He called on management to uphold fairness, build trust, and adopt more human-centered decision-making processes. Emphasizing unity within the union, he said, “Let this victory unite us, not divide us. We are one union, one family with one destiny.”

Commitment to Institutional Excellence

Under Mr. Obeng-Gyan’s leadership, the PMSU aims to become a model of responsible unionism that supports transparency, staff well-being, and the bank’s long-term sustainability. The newly elected officers include Prince Osei Bremang as 1st Vice-Chair, Ivey Sefakor Tettey as 2nd Vice-Chair, Maclean Obeng Amoamah as Secretary, Sabina Asosika Osei as Assistant Secretary, Harry Ayensu Quaidoo as 1st Trustee, and Kwabena Danso as 2nd Trustee.

The union’s focus on fostering a collaborative environment between management and staff reflects a broader commitment to creating a more inclusive and effective workplace. This shift in approach is expected to enhance productivity and ensure that the ADB continues to serve its stakeholders effectively.

Looking Ahead

As the PMSU moves forward under new leadership, there is a sense of optimism about the potential for positive change. The emphasis on transparency, dialogue, and mutual respect sets the stage for a more harmonious relationship between the union and management. With clear goals and a unified vision, the PMSU is well-positioned to contribute to the ongoing success of the Agricultural Development Bank.
