Arrest of Pastor Accused of Sexual Abuse in Nasarawa State
Police operatives from the Karshi Divisional Headquarters have arrested a 37-year-old pastor, Asonye Isaiah, affiliated with the Rock of Love and Adoration Ground church in Old Karshi, Abuja. The arrest comes after allegations that he sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl in Nasarawa State.
The incident was reported through a statement released by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ramhan Nansel, on Sunday in Lafia, the state capital. According to Nansel, the complaint was lodged at the division on April 18, 2026, around 20:00 hours.
The PPRO explained that during the initial investigation, it was discovered that the suspect had deceived the victim’s aunt, claiming her niece was “possessed” and needed cleansing at a river. Instead, he took the girl to a hotel in New Karshi, where he allegedly committed two acts of unlawful carnal knowledge. He also reportedly threatened to kill the victim if she revealed what had happened.
The crime came to light when the victim’s guardian noticed unusual changes in her behavior and began questioning her. The victim was then taken for a medical examination, which confirmed that there had been penile penetration.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the offense and pleaded for leniency. The state Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further investigation and prosecution.
Nansel assured the public that justice would be served and urged members of the community to remain cautious about the places of worship they attend and the individuals who present themselves as clergy.
