Placebo Announces Major Dublin Gig and Reworked Debut Album for 30th Anniversary Celebrations
Alt-rock pioneers Placebo are set to electrify Dublin’s 3Arena on Wednesday, December 2, 2026, as part of their extensive 30th Anniversary Tour. This landmark tour will see the iconic duo delve into the foundations of their career, performing material from their seminal first two albums, Placebo and Without You I’m Nothing. Adding another layer to their anniversary festivities, the band is also releasing a reimagined version of their debut album, offering fans a unique perspective on their formative sound.
The reworked debut, titled Placebo RE:CREATED, is slated for release on Friday, June 19, via Elevator Lady LTD through AWAL. This special edition will not simply be a remaster; it’s a deep dive into the band’s evolution. Placebo RE:CREATED will feature the original ten tracks from their 1996 self-titled album, complemented by two previously unreleased bonus tracks.
Placebo themselves described the project as a “director’s cut,” emphasizing that it’s not a complete overhaul but rather a reinterpretation informed by decades of live performance. “We haven’t recreated it from scratch,” the band stated in a press release. “We went back to the original master tapes and brought 30 years of playing these songs live back into the record.”
This approach reflects a profound connection between the band’s past and present. Placebo elaborated on how their early recordings captured a raw, unpolished vision, often limited by their nascent studio experience. “When we made the first album, we didn’t yet have the experience or the studio knowledge to fully translate what was in our heads,” they explained. “Over the years, the songs took on a life of their own on stage; they grew, they developed, they kind of completed themselves.”
Placebo RE:CREATED is therefore presented as a bridge between eras. It’s a “celebration of where we began, and a meeting point between who we were then and who we are now,” according to the band. This project allows them to “honour that innocence, while letting the songs exist with the scale, confidence, and energy of the band we’ve become.”
The 30th Anniversary Tour promises to be a comprehensive retrospective, spanning 36 shows across Europe and the UK. Fans can expect a journey through the band’s early, genre-bending work, which first catapulted them into the alt-rock spotlight. Formed in 1994 by Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal, Placebo released their self-titled debut in 1996. Tracks like ‘Nancy Boy’ and ’36 Degrees’ became anthems for a generation, lauded for their daring lyrical content and their ability to push the boundaries of mainstream rock. Their sophomore album, Without You I’m Nothing, further solidified their status, featuring hits such as ‘Pure Morning’ and the iconic duet ‘Every You Every Me’ with David Bowie.
For the Dublin show at the 3Arena, tickets will go on sale on Friday, March 27, at 9 am. A pre-order of the Placebo RE:CREATED album will grant fans access to a presale, offering an earlier opportunity to secure their spot for what is sure to be a highly anticipated evening of raw, emotive alt-rock.
The band’s enduring appeal lies in their consistent commitment to authenticity and their ability to evolve while staying true to their core sound. This anniversary celebration, marked by both a live tour and a re-imagined debut, offers a compelling look at the journey of one of modern rock’s most influential acts. It’s a chance for long-time fans to relive the magic of their early years and for new audiences to discover the roots of Placebo’s distinctive sonic identity.
