Deadly Assault Claims Seven Lives in Plateau State Village
A brutal attack on Bong Village, located in the Doemak District of Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area in Plateau State, Nigeria, has resulted in the tragic deaths of at least seven individuals. The assailants, described as heavily armed gunmen, launched a terrifying house-to-house raid on Friday, specifically targeting vulnerable members of the community, including women, children, and the elderly.
Eyewitness accounts gathered from survivors paint a grim picture of the violence that unfolded. Residents recounted how the attackers systematically moved through the village, leaving a trail of devastation. Many of the victims were reportedly those who were unable to flee the onslaught in time.
Lawrence Dogari, a resident of the affected local government area, confirmed the grim toll. “For now, I can confirm that over seven persons have been killed, while some others are still missing,” he stated, highlighting the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the full impact of the attack.
The gravity of the situation was further underscored by Danaan Sylvanus, the Director of Press and Publicity to the Executive Chairman of the Qua’an-Pan Local Government Council. While also confirming the incident, Sylvanus noted that the precise number of fatalities was still being determined.
The council leadership has strongly condemned the violence. “The council boss, Christopher Audu Manship, condemns the attack on innocent persons and is collaborating with security operatives to ensure that the culprits are arrested,” Sylvanus added, emphasizing a commitment to bringing those responsible to justice.
Despite repeated attempts to solicit comments from the state Police Command, the spokesman, Alabo Alfred, did not respond to inquiries regarding the attack.
This latest tragedy in Bong Village is not an isolated incident. It marks a continuation of a disturbing pattern of killings perpetrated by armed groups in various Plateau State villages in recent times. The violence has instilled fear and insecurity among the local populations.
