Princesses and Superheroes Unite at Ramsdell’s First Event

A Magical Day at the Ramsdell Regional Center for the Arts

Manistee was filled with excitement as children and adults donned their most dazzling princess outfits on Saturday for the inaugural Crowns and Capes: Where Princess Magic Meets Superhero Power event at the Ramsdell Regional Center for the Arts. The ballroom buzzed with energy as approximately 80 children and their families gathered to celebrate the magic of both princesses and superheroes.

Families had the opportunity to meet beloved characters such as Elsa, Moana, Tiana, and Ariel, along with superheroes like Captain America and Spider-Man. Attendees were encouraged to dress in their favorite character costumes, creating a vibrant and immersive experience for everyone involved.

The event featured a variety of activities designed to engage and entertain all ages. Guests were introduced to the characters, participated in a superhero oath, enjoyed refreshments, and took photos with their favorite heroes. Additionally, there was a special performance where Elsa sang a song and Moana shared an inspiring story. These moments added a touch of wonder and joy to the day.

Laura Ortiz-LaVelle, the executive director of the Ramsdell, expressed her enthusiasm for the event and the future of programming at the center. “We wanted to try it. I just love it. We want to do it again,” she said. Ortiz-LaVelle emphasized the nonprofit’s commitment to offering more events that cater to all age groups, ensuring that the arts remain accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Olivia Grace & Company, the local entertainment group based in Michigan, provided the cast of princesses and superheroes for the event. According to their website, the company is dedicated to delivering high-quality character entertainment that rivals that of theme parks. Ortiz-LaVelle highlighted the wide range of characters available through the company and expressed her excitement about the upcoming season at the Ramsdell.

“We’re doing things a little different,” she said, indicating a fresh approach to programming and events.
