A New Voice on the Airwaves
Nairobi’s radio scene is set for an exciting transformation. Jeremy Wahome, a fresh face in the industry, has joined the Radio Africa Group family. His highly anticipated on-air debut is scheduled for Monday, 20th April. He will be making his mark alongside Cyd Wambui on the morning show, bringing a new energy to the station’s breakfast programming.
This move comes at a time when Kiss FM continues to solidify its reputation as a leading force in urban entertainment. The station has always been known for its dynamic and youthful approach, and with Jeremy’s arrival, it aims to further captivate its audience.
A Big Stage for New Talent
The Radio Africa Group CEO, Martin Khafafa, officially welcomed Jeremy to the team last week. During the event, Khafafa highlighted the significance of the occasion, noting that Kiss 100 recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. As the largest urban English-speaking station in the country, it specifically targets the 18 to 24-year-old demographic.
Khafafa emphasized the station’s rich legacy, which has featured legendary presenters like Caroline Mutoko. Current stars include Mwalimu Rachel and DJ Xclusive. He extended a warm welcome to Jeremy, acknowledging the importance of the platform he now joins.
“Welcome to Radio Africa. You’re coming onto a big stage. I can assure you, you’re coming to a very big stage. We also believe you have what it takes to take that young people’s station to the next level,” Khafafa said.
He challenged Jeremy to go beyond just entertaining the audience. Instead, he encouraged him to create narratives that contribute to national development. Khafafa urged Jeremy to foster positivity and patriotism among the youth.
“Create positive impact, give us over and above the fun and entertainment, create narratives that will build the country, and build the spirit of positivity, patriotism, and excitement of just being Kenyan and Nairobian,” he added.
From Film to the Airwaves
Jeremy’s journey into the world of radio began with a strong educational background. He attended the University of Leeds before moving to South Africa to study at AFDA, where he specialized in film and television. His passion for the media was ignited after he returned to Nairobi and witnessed the work of established presenters like Shaffie Weru, Neville, and Andy Young.
“I actually studied film until I came back to Nairobi and started seeing guys on radio doing the thing… I just said, you know what, I’m not going to waste this voice, I’m going to be right there with them,” Jeremy shared during an interview with Mpasho.
Before joining Kiss FM, Jeremy spent five years at Sound City Radio, where he honed his skills and developed a deep appreciation for the medium.
Joining the “Great United”
For Jeremy, joining Kiss 100 is a dream come true. Growing up, he used to listen to Shaffie Weru on the very same show he is about to join. He described the experience using a football metaphor.
“I feel like I’ve been playing for Arsenal all my life and I finally joined the great Manchester United,” he said.
He is particularly excited about returning to the airwaves. Jeremy enjoys storytelling and connecting with the public. He expressed great enthusiasm about working alongside Cyd Wambui, looking forward to the collaboration and the energy they will bring together.
What Listeners Can Expect
When asked about the vibe he brings, Jeremy was confident and eager to surprise his audience. He promised something “different” for the listeners but remained coy about the specifics until the first show.
“Tune in on Monday, come back and tell me how the energy is, I’m telling you it’s going to be different,” he challenged his new listeners.
Beyond his broadcasting career, Jeremy has a wide range of interests. He is a passionate Manchester United supporter and enjoys music and various sports. Interestingly, he is also a golf enthusiast, adding another dimension to his personality.
