A New Chapter in the Cricket Career of Ramakrishna Ghosh
Ramakrishna Ghosh made his Indian Premier League debut for Chennai Super Kings during their 2026 encounter against Mumbai Indians at MA Chidambaram Stadium. The 28-year-old Maharashtra all-rounder was signed at the 2025 IPL Auction for Rs 30 lakhs and retained by the same franchise for the 2026 edition, following a successful stint in the domestic cricket setup.
Ghosh is a right-handed medium-fast bowler and a tail-end batsman who has been making waves in the cricketing world. His performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he took 7 wickets for just 42 runs in a match between Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh, brought him into the spotlight. This achievement placed him among the elite group of players in the history of the Vijay Hazare Trophy to take seven wickets in an innings.
Before his IPL debut, Ghosh had already shown his potential on the domestic stage. In a previous encounter against the same opponent, he scored a quick 64 off 27 balls, showcasing his batting skills. This performance highlighted his versatility as an all-rounder.
A Strong Domestic Record
Ghosh has played for Maharashtra across all formats of the game. In First Class cricket, he has taken 28 wickets and scored 455 runs from 15 innings. His highest individual score of 99 runs came against Gujarat in 2016, demonstrating his ability to contribute with the bat as well.
In the List A format, Ghosh has picked up 21 wickets, including a best performance of 7/42. He has also contributed runs lower down the order, proving his value to the team. While his experience in T20 cricket is limited, he had a notable season in 2020-2021, where he took most of his wickets with the ball and showed promise with the bat as well.
Ghosh’s bowling style is steady, with the ability to swing the ball both ways at speeds around 140 KMPH. This makes him a valuable asset for any team looking for a reliable pace bowler.
The Road to the IPL
Ghosh began his cricketing journey under the guidance of his father at the Shekhar Ghosh Cricket Academy in Nashik. After gaining experience in age-group teams in Maharashtra, he made his first-class debut in 2022 after a period of injury.
His talent did not go unnoticed, and he was signed by Chennai Super Kings in the 2025 auction. Since then, he has been part of the CSK squad and is set to make his IPL debut, a moment that will be etched in his career.
A Versatile All-Rounder
Ghosh’s ability to bowl quickly and strike the ball makes him a valuable addition to the team. He can offer support with the ball when needed and contribute handy runs to the batting order. The CSK management sees him as a ‘pace-bowling all-rounder’ and has placed their faith in him by including him in the team against Mumbai Indians.
His inclusion in the squad highlights the confidence the franchise has in his abilities. As he steps onto the field for the first time in the IPL, Ghosh will be looking to make a lasting impression and prove himself as a key player for Chennai Super Kings.
