Royal Elegance: Princess of Wales Shines in Tiara at State Banquet
The Princess of Wales, Catherine, recently graced a prestigious state banquet, radiating elegance as she joined Prince William and their distinguished Nigerian guests. The occasion, held at St George’s Hall, saw Catherine don a breathtaking emerald green gown by Andrew Gn, instantly capturing attention.
Complementing her striking attire, the Princess of Wales wore the iconic Lover’s Knot Tiara, a piece famously favoured by the late Diana, Princess of Wales. This dazzling display of royal tradition underscored the significance of hosting the Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and his wife, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, during their official state visit.
The royal contingent present for the evening included Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Lawrence, Princess Anne, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, all joining William and Catherine to welcome the esteemed visitors. Earlier that day, the royal family had officially received President Tinubu and his wife at Windsor Castle, escorting them to meet His Majesty King Charles and Her Majesty Queen Camilla.

A Banquet of Significance: Firsts and Respects
The lavish state banquet marked a historic moment, being the first state visit by a Muslim leader during the holy month of Ramadan in almost a century. In a thoughtful gesture of respect, the royal family opted to forgo the traditional formal luncheon earlier in the day, acknowledging President Tinubu’s observance of Ramadan and his fast. This visit also holds particular historical weight as it represents the first state visit by a Nigerian leader in 37 years and the inaugural one to be hosted at Windsor Castle.
The guest list for the evening was a blend of international dignitaries and notable figures, including several prominent Nigerian and British-Nigerian celebrities, adding a contemporary flair to the traditional proceedings.
A Royal Welcome: Style and Symbolism
It has become a cherished tradition for the Prince and Princess of Wales to personally welcome international visitors during state visits. This practice was evident earlier in the day when Catherine and William greeted President Tinubu and his wife at Windsor Castle, commencing their official engagements.
For this initial greeting, the Princess of Wales showcased her keen sense of style and her support for emerging designers by choosing a dove grey, double-breasted blazer dress by British-Nigerian designer Tolu Coker. This ensemble, believed to be the first time the Princess has worn a design by Coker, was elegantly accessorised with a matching headpiece and sophisticated Hugo Boss pointed-toe pumps.

Adding a deeply personal and sentimental touch to her look, Catherine wore the Collingwood Pearl drop earrings. These exquisite earrings once belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, further weaving a thread of connection and remembrance into the fabric of the occasion. The choice of accessories not only enhanced her regal appearance but also carried significant historical and emotional resonance, reflecting a thoughtful approach to royal diplomacy and personal style.
