The record was set in the 52nd match of IPL 2026 on Friday at Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Batting first after Rajasthan Royals chose to bowl, the Gujarat Titans openers once again delivered a strong start for their team. The pair accumulated an impressive 118 runs for the first wicket before Sai Sudharsan was dismissed for 55 in 36 balls by Yash Raj Punja in the 11th over.
At the time of the partnership’s end, Gill was on 50 off 30 balls, and GT was at 118/1 after 10.5 overs.

Gill and Sudharsan have now joined an elite group of IPL openers with nine 100+ partnerships for the first wicket in the tournament. This achievement places them level with the legendary Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle, who previously held this record for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
