Runners Savor Final Moments on Boston Marathon Course

Preparing for the 130th Boston Marathon

The energy on Boylston Street was electric as thousands of runners from across the United States and around the globe gathered to explore the Boston Marathon course on Sunday. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, as participants took photos at the finish line and spent time with family in anticipation of race day.

Veteran runners shared stories of their first Boston Marathon experiences, while others expressed their eagerness to take part in the event. Many found inspiration in the vibrant environment, which is a hallmark of the marathon.

Personal Motivations and Memories

Qiongsen Yu from California described feeling “wonderful and very excited” upon seeing so many people. For many runners, visualizing the finish line is a key strategy to help them push through the grueling 26.2-mile course.

Nicola Linton-Mammoliti of Canada emphasized the importance of the finish line, saying, “It is really great to see the finish line because I think I can picture it, having done some races before.” She highlighted the emotional impact of crossing the line surrounded by crowds and local support.

Kody Gagnon, a former cross-country and track and field athlete at Southern New Hampshire University, has been preparing extensively for the Boston Marathon. His goal is to achieve a 2:30 finish or to beat his personal best of 2:37.

“It’s been a long journey for me,” Gagnon said. “I’m really excited for this race, given that this is the biggest one I’ve ever been a part of.”

A Second Time Around

Lizzie Ramey, who lives in Utah and shares fitness content with over 300,000 followers on Instagram and TikTok, is participating in her second Boston Marathon. This year, she feels even more excited than last time.

“It was really cool walking up here because it took me totally back to last year, where you’re coming down that final stretch on Boylston and you just see all the loud crowds and just crossing this line and accomplishing all that behind you is the coolest feeling ever,” Ramey said.

Final Preparations and Nerves

With just hours until Marathon Monday, nerves are setting in as runners make final preparations. They are carb-loading for one last big meal and trying to get a good night’s sleep.

More than 30,000 people are expected to participate in the marathon, representing 123 countries and all 50 states. The first wave is set to start at 9:06 a.m. in Hopkinton.
