Shane Lowry’s incredible Masters hole-in-one makes history

A Historic Achievement in Golf

Shane Lowry has made history by becoming the first golfer to achieve multiple holes-in-one at the Masters. This remarkable feat occurred on Saturday afternoon when he aced the 190-yard, par-3 sixth hole during his third round at Augusta National. The shot not only delighted the spectators but also propelled him closer to the lead, which was held by his close friend Rory McIlroy.

McIlroy had initially been in a commanding position, but his lead began to wane early on Saturday. Lowry’s impressive performance on the sixth hole saw the ball pitch just below the hole and then roll in after a couple of bounces. This marked only the seventh ace ever recorded at that particular hole in the tournament’s history.

The moment sparked an eruption of excitement on the course, with Lowry’s playing partner, Tommy Fleetwood, embracing his Ryder Cup teammate in celebration. Even American player Harris English was so impressed by the shot that he paused and pretended to bow down to Lowry on the nearby 16th green.

This achievement marks the 35th time a hole-in-one has been scored at the Masters, and now Lowry has two of them. His previous hole-in-one here came at the 16th hole during the final round of 2016. That was also his second ace in a month, as he had previously recorded one at March’s Texas Children’s Houston Open.

Lowry has also demonstrated his skill on other famous par-3 holes. He has aced the 17th at Sawgrass in 2022 and the short seventh at Pebble Beach in January 2025. These are two of the most renowned par threes in golf.

Thanks to his latest accomplishment on Saturday, Lowry will be awarded a large crystal bowl as a prize by Augusta National. This recognition highlights his exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.
