Comedian’s Comments on Taylor Swift’s Physique Spark Outrage
Comedian Mark Normand has ignited a firestorm of criticism following his remarks about pop superstar Taylor Swift’s body during a recent appearance on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast. The 42-year-old actor’s comments, which suggested Swift should consider cosmetic surgery, have been widely condemned as misogynistic and unwarranted.
Normand, during the March 18th episode, controversially opined on Swift’s physique, even going so far as to suggest her fiancé, NFL star Travis Kelce, might not have been accustomed to dating women with a “surfboard body” before their relationship. He drew a stark comparison between Swift and Kelce’s past partners, stating, “We’ve seen his exes, compared to old surfboard body here. I mean, this is…not to besmirch the lady…quite a jump in type.”
The podcast host, Shannon Sharpe, acknowledged that some fans believe Kelce, 36, made a misstep in his previous relationship with Kayla Nicole. However, Sharpe questioned whether happiness in a new relationship negates any perceived past “fumbles.” Normand, however, doubled down on his commentary, jokingly wondering if Kelce “misses that fat a–,” referring to Nicole. While Sharpe defended the couple’s current happiness, Normand persisted with his suggestion, remarking, “I think she could get a BBL.” The retired NFL star, a three-time Super Bowl champion, ultimately dismissed Normand’s suggestion, stating, “Nah, that doesn’t fit what she’s got going on.”
Fans Decry Normand’s Remarks as Misogynistic
The comedian’s outspoken critique of Swift’s body did not sit well with a significant portion of the public. Social media platforms were quickly flooded with angry reactions from fans who found Normand’s comments “weird & uncalled for.” Many questioned the societal pressure placed on women, with one user asking, “Why do men feel so comfortable suggesting surgeries for women who didn’t ask?”

A particularly strong rebuke came from a user who articulated the frustration felt by many: “Mark Normand telling Taylor Swift to get a BBL isn’t edgy comedy, it’s just tired, low effort misogyny dressed up as a punchline. There’s nothing provocative about reducing one of the most successful artists in the world to her body and suggesting she surgically modify it to meet some arbitrary male defined standard. It’s lazy, regressive, and weirdly entitled, like women’s bodies exist for public commentary and renovation suggestions.” This sentiment highlights a broader concern about the public scrutiny and unsolicited opinions directed at women’s appearances, particularly those in the public eye.
Swift and Kelce’s Engagement and Wedding Plans
Normand’s controversial remarks come at a time when Swift, 36, is reportedly deep in wedding preparations with her fiancé, Travis Kelce. The couple announced their engagement on August 26, 2025, a revelation that sent shockwaves across the internet. They shared the joyous news on Instagram with a post captioned, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” accompanied by a photo of them in Kelce’s garden.

Swift herself offered insights into the proposal during a December 2025 appearance on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.” She revealed that the engagement took place shortly after she guest-starred on Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast. The singer explained that the podcast served as a deliberate diversion to prevent her from suspecting the proposal. “The podcast was just sort of a distraction, sort of a ruse, to keep me not looking out the windows of the house,” Swift recounted. She described how Kelce had installed “fully, like, blackout drapes on every single window of the whole house,” a detail that now makes sense in retrospect.

Following the podcast recording, Kelce invited Swift for a walk in the backyard and a glass of wine. Swift admitted, “And I’m always gonna wanna do that.” She continued with a touch of humour, “And then I realized why all the windows were curtained and why he was nervous. It was the best possible-case scenario.”

Kelce also shared his perspective on the proposal during a September 3, 2025, episode of the “New Heights” podcast. He emphasised the importance of tailoring the proposal to his partner’s preferences. “You’ve got to know your gal…and you can’t let how somebody else does it make you feel like you gotta do it that way,” he advised. “You might be able to get some ideas from how other people did it.” This thoughtful approach to their engagement underscores the couple’s genuine connection and their commitment to celebrating their relationship in a way that is meaningful to them both, regardless of external opinions.
