Terri Irwin, the matriarch of the famous Irwin family, recently made a lighthearted comment about her son Robert’s well-known shirtless photoshoot. The 61-year-old shared her thoughts while attending the 2026 Steve Irwin Gala at the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. This event is a significant fundraiser for the conservation efforts that her late husband, Steve Irwin, was so passionate about.
During the gala, Terri reflected on how Robert has continued his father’s legacy in environmentalism. She described the journey as one filled with both challenges and moments of joy. “It was a lot of work, it was a lot of grief, there were times of great joy. And to be able to have shared that with him was incredibly special — and carry it on,” she said.
However, Terri couldn’t resist a playful jab at her son. “But I will say the one thing that Robert’s got that Steve didn’t — Steve never took his shirt off for wildlife.” This remark sparked a light-hearted response from Robert, who quipped, “I simply do whatever gets the job done.”

While Terri and Robert were present at the 2026 gala, their daughter Bindi was notably absent. Bindi, 27, missed the 2025 event due to an emergency appendectomy and skipped the 2026 gathering because of her ongoing struggles with endometriosis.
“Things like a lot of travel are a bit challenging for her at the moment, and so she’ll be here next year to celebrate this wonderful night,” Terri explained to E! News at the event. However, she also mentioned that Bindi has been doing “so much better” and is currently staying close to home.
Bindi publicly revealed her endometriosis diagnosis in March 2023 and has since spoken openly about her experiences with surgeries and treatments. Her honesty has helped raise awareness about the condition and the challenges it presents.
