AUSTIN — Texas men’s basketball coach Sean Miller continues to rebuild his roster through the transfer portal with the addition of another Southeastern Conference rival.

Elyjan Freeman, a 6-foot-8 forward, is making the move to Austin from Auburn, where he completed his sophomore year with the Tigers. During that season, Freeman averaged 9.2 points per game in 38 games, starting 21 of them. He also pulled down 5.2 rebounds per game and played a key role in helping Auburn reach the NIT championship. The Tigers defeated Tulsa 92-86 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis to claim the title.
Freeman announced his decision on Sunday via social media around noon.
He is a 4-star transfer recruit according to 247Sports, marking the fourth 4-star player Texas has added from the transfer portal this cycle. The Longhorns currently hold the No. 2-ranked transfer recruiting class in the country, trailing only Louisville.
Before joining Auburn, Freeman spent his freshman season at Division II Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee. His journey to the SEC highlights his versatility and adaptability as a player.
Texas’ recent additions to the transfer portal include:
- Isaiah Johnson, a point guard from Colorado
- David Punch, a power forward from TCU
- Amari Evans, a shooting guard from Tennessee
In addition to Freeman, these players are part of a growing list of transfers who have shown interest in joining the Longhorns. The transfer portal remains open until Tuesday, but once a player submits the necessary paperwork before the deadline, coaches can begin contacting them. This allows for greater flexibility in the recruitment process, as players can transfer freely at any time after the paperwork is complete.
The continued focus on the transfer portal reflects Coach Miller’s strategy to strengthen the team by bringing in experienced talent. With Freeman’s addition, Texas is building a more competitive roster that could make a strong impact in the upcoming season.
As the transfer window continues, fans will be watching closely to see what other additions the program might make. With a solid foundation already in place, the Longhorns are positioning themselves for a strong return in the coming years.
