Tina Barrett: S Club’s Back and Buzzing

S Club Ready to Reignite the Stage with Exciting Comeback Plans

A wave of nostalgia is set to wash over the Australian music scene as pop sensations S Club, formerly known as S Club 7, are reportedly gearing up for a significant comeback. While official announcements are still on the horizon, band member Tina Barrett has provided a tantalising glimpse into the group’s future, confirming that exciting projects are well underway and hinting that fans will indeed be seeing a lot more of them.

Last month, reports surfaced suggesting that the beloved 90s pop outfit was in the early stages of planning a large-scale arena tour, a move that would mark their return to the live stage almost three years after the tragic passing of bandmate Paul Cattermole. Now, Barrett’s candid remarks have fanned the flames of speculation, indicating that the group is far from disbanding and is actively working on new ventures.

Speaking at the Cabaret Gala Night event at London’s Kit Kat Club this month, Barrett shared her enthusiasm, stating, “We haven’t parted ways, we’ve actually got some projects that we’re working on. I can’t confirm anything, but yes, you will be seeing more of us, and hopefully everyone’s as excited as we are. We’ve got new stuff to show you, that’s for sure.”

This confirmation comes amid insider whispers that concerts are being pencilled in for February 2027. The current understanding is that core members Rachel Stevens, Jo O’Meara, Jon Lee, and Tina Barrett have all committed to these potential arena shows across the UK. Furthermore, Bradley McIntosh is also understood to have agreed to participate, and significant efforts are reportedly being made to bring Hannah Spearritt back into the fold.

Hannah’s potential involvement is a key point of discussion, given her absence from the group’s previous tour in 2023. Her departure from that tour was reportedly due to a falling out with the rest of the band. The disagreement stemmed from her decision to sell an interview concerning Paul Cattermole’s passing to a tabloid newspaper, allegedly in breach of an agreement among the members to maintain silence until the cause of his death was officially determined.

An unnamed insider close to the project expressed the palpable excitement surrounding these potential reunion plans. “There is so much excitement about this tour,” they revealed. “They have a huge fan base and a very loyal following so S Club would be thrilled to perform to them again. It will also be a fantastic way to once again remember Paul, who they so desperately miss. Some involved in the project claim that Hannah will join in but there was a lot of bad blood from the last tour so who knows.”

The sentiment of reunion has been subtly hinted at by band members previously. Last year, Jon Lee shared a poignant social media post that seemed to foreshadow a return, writing, “I have always been a nostalgic person. The kind who cling to old songs, saved texts, and memories that seem too small to matter, yet mean everything.”

S Club, who rose to prominence in the late 90s, initially reunited in 2023 to celebrate their 25th anniversary. This milestone, however, was tragically overshadowed by the sudden and unexpected death of Paul Cattermole at the age of 46, just weeks after the reunion announcement. His passing was later attributed to natural causes, specifically heart failure.

Despite the profound loss, the remaining members bravely continued with their planned gigs, rebranding the tour as “The Good Times Tour” in honour of their 25th anniversary, a celebration initiated by music mogul Simon Fuller. In a touching tribute to their late bandmate, S Club also released their first new single in over two decades, “These Are the Days,” dedicated to Paul’s memory.

The band, which first burst onto the music scene in 1998, achieved massive success with a string of enduring hits, including “Bring It All Back,” “S Club Party,” “Reach,” and “Never Had a Dream Come True.” Their early fame was bolstered by their own BBC television show, “Miami 7,” and their debut single, “Bring It All Back,” swiftly claimed the number one spot in the charts in 1999. They even enjoyed some chart success in the United States with “Never Had a Dream Come True.”

The group’s initial journey saw Paul Cattermole depart in 2002, leading to the band’s eventual breakup in 2003. Following this, Simon Fuller launched a spin-off project, S Club Juniors. Since the band’s dissolution, individual members have pursued various paths, with Rachel Stevens notably embarking on a successful solo career and achieving runner-up status on “Strictly Come Dancing” in 2008. The prospect of their collective return now promises to reignite fond memories for a generation of fans.
