Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has taken a dramatic turn in his life, embracing an influencer lifestyle that marks a significant departure from his political career. Known for his well-tailored suits and long wavy hair, he was once celebrated as one of the best-dressed men in the world of politics. However, since stepping down from his role as prime minister, Trudeau has undergone a whirlwind transformation, shifting from a polished premier to a more relaxed figure alongside his girlfriend, Katy Perry.
The couple officially confirmed their relationship late last year, and in the short time since, Trudeau has quickly adapted to being the boyfriend of a pop star. In November, he shared a selfie on Instagram with 4.6 million followers, showcasing a tattooed bicep and urging his audience to get a flu jab. His post read: “Got my flu shot and COVID-19 vaccine today. It’s a simple way to protect yourself, your loved ones, and our health care workers. If you haven’t gotten yours yet, book it today at your local pharmacy or clinic.”
While some found his new look “cool,” others joked, “This is the picture he sent to Katy Perry for sure.” Trudeau further demonstrated his style change over the weekend when he was spotted at Coachella with Perry. He dressed casually in a white t-shirt and blue jeans, paired with grey trainers and a navy cap worn backwards. Meanwhile, Perry wore a bold slogan t-shirt that read: “Please do not give me a rip off your vape no matter what I say” while posing with a cigarette behind her ear.
Shocked onlookers commented on Trudeau’s new lifestyle, with some saying, “Seeing your ex-prime minister in a club is so wild” and “No stress looks good on you, Justin.” Although Trudeau has left behind the prestige of his decade-long tenure as Canada’s prime minister, it’s evident that he’s quickly capitalizing on his image to transition into a full-time Instagram influencer.
Three days after passing the torch to Mark Carney last year, Trudeau posted a selfie showing him stocking up on household items at a popular department store. The image featured him carrying a trolley full of kitchen essentials, including a Master Chef cordless electric kettle and a hand mixer. Commenters noted the stark difference in his revamped look, with one remark stating, “Just a normal Canadian dude shopping for kitchenware now,” and another noting, “Looks like he is setting up his bachelor pad.”
Trudeau’s popstar girlfriend has also had to adjust her wardrobe due to his political commitments. Perry ditched her usual aesthetic for a more demure look when she accompanied the former Canadian prime minister to the World Economic Forum in Davos in January. The singer, with her hair slicked back in a bun, opted for a scoop-neck cardigan with balloon sleeves and a matching pencil skirt from luxury Paris brand Jacquemus in stealth wealth beige.
Her accessories, including drop earrings from The Care, were similarly pared back. However, Perry still showed her cheeky personality when she winked at her boyfriend during the event. She joined The Female Quotient lounge to support Trudeau as he gave his speech.
Perry left Trudeau grinning from ear to ear when she caught his eye from across the room. In a clip shared to Instagram, Female Quotient wrote: “The room was packed, the energy was high and Katy kept it low-key, cheering them on. A reminder that showing up matters.”
Trudeau was joined on stage by his former chief of staff, Katie Telford, to discuss women and underrepresented voices. The couple, who first sparked dating rumours in July last year, have since formed a strong bond and are frequently seen out and about on lavish jaunts.
