UNF Women’s Tennis Secures ASUN Title with Thrilling Three-Set Wins

Graduate senior Isabel Oliveira and sophomore Aryana Bartlett delivered crucial three-set singles victories, helping the University of North Florida women’s tennis team secure a 4-2 win over Florida Gulf Coast on April 18 at the FGCU Tennis Complex in Fort Myers. This victory marked the Ospreys’ 11th ASUN Tournament Championship and their first title since 2023.

With this win, UNF extended its dual match record to an impressive 25-0, securing three victories in the tournament while only losing two points. The Ospreys dominated their early rounds, blanking Bellarmine 4-0 and North Alabama 4-0. As a result, UNF remains the only NCAA Division I team that has yet to suffer a loss in dual matches.

Despite the Ospreys’ strong performance, Florida Gulf Coast managed to score two points. The Eagles tied the match at 2-2 after going 1-2 in doubles and losing the fourth singles spot when Cecilie Maeland (16-8) defeated May Fadida with a final score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

However, Oliveira made a significant impact by defeating June Bjork with a score of 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, while Bartlett secured another key win against Ashley Matz, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. These victories proved to be the clinching points for the Ospreys. In addition to these wins, Gabby Goyins defeated Sabrina Jaramillo 6-2, 6-3, and Anslee Long topped Anjali Kotecha 6-3, 6-2 in other singles matches.

The No. 1 singles match featured Laurie Barendse, who fought back from a first-set loss and was leading Nora Svensson 4-3 in the third set when the match was clinched. Barendse currently holds a 17-4 singles record and has led in three of her four unfinished matches, showcasing her resilience and determination.

Looking ahead, the Ospreys will find out their opponent for the first round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament during the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Selection Show on April 27 at 5:30 p.m. This event will determine the path for the Ospreys as they continue their pursuit of national success.
