Urgent Aussie Supplement Recall: Three Hospitalised

Popular Moringa Supplement Recalled After Salmonella Outbreak

A widely consumed dietary supplement has been pulled from shelves across the United States following its connection to a salmonella outbreak that has led to multiple illnesses. The Rosabella-brand moringa powder capsules, marketed to boost energy levels and promote restful sleep, were subject to a recall announced on Friday, as detailed in a press release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The recall was initiated after data gathered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicated that seven individuals had been diagnosed with Salmonella Newport, a specific strain of this foodborne pathogen. These infections occurred between November 7, 2025, and January 8, 2026. Crucially, three of the individuals who fell ill, when interviewed, reported having consumed Rosabella-brand moringa powder capsules.

Consumers can identify the affected product by its packaging: white plastic bottles adorned with a green label and bearing an expiration date in 2027. The FDA has also provided a list of specific seven-digit lot codes associated with the recalled supplements, enabling consumers to verify if their product is part of the recall.

The distribution of these recalled supplements extended beyond brick-and-mortar stores, with sales also occurring online through platforms such as eBay, TikTok Shop, Amazon, Shein, and directly via the Tryrosabella.com website.

Geographic Spread and Health Impacts

The salmonella infections linked to the Rosabella moringa capsules were identified across seven different states: Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee, and Washington. Of the seven individuals who became ill, three required hospitalisation. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported in connection with this particular outbreak.

Health authorities are strongly advising consumers who may have purchased these supplements to dispose of them immediately or to return them to the point of purchase for a refund.

As outlined by the FDA, symptoms of salmonella illness typically manifest “within 12 to 72 hours after eating food that is contaminated” with the bacteria. The common signs include diarrhoea, fever, and abdominal cramps, with symptoms usually lasting between four and seven days.

A Recurring Issue: Supplements and Salmonella

This is not an isolated incident, as numerous dietary supplements have been implicated in previous salmonella outbreaks across the U.S. In a related development just last month, Superfoods Inc., the manufacturer of Live it Up-brand Super Greens powder, issued a recall for both its original and wild berry-flavoured supplement powders. This action followed a reported connection to 45 illnesses that occurred between August and December 2025.

During that earlier outbreak, at least 12 individuals required hospitalisation, though, similar to the current situation, no deaths were recorded. The affected products had been distributed nationwide, with cases of illness detected in 21 states.

Further underscoring the trend, in September, a significant salmonella outbreak was linked to four popular dietary supplements imported from Vallon Farm Direct in Jodhpur, India. Among these was Member’s Mark Super Greens Powder. At that time, the outbreak resulted in 11 illnesses and three hospitalisations. Investigations by the CDC revealed that out of 10 individuals who became sick and were interviewed, nine had consumed powdered dietary supplements, with six specifically reporting the use of Member’s Mark Super Greens Powder.

The Broader Threat of Salmonella

The CDC highlights that salmonella bacteria represent the second leading cause of foodborne illnesses in the United States. The organisation’s statistics paint a concerning picture: each year, salmonella is responsible for an estimated 1.35 million illnesses, approximately 420 deaths, and around 26,500 hospitalisations nationwide. This underscores the importance of vigilance and prompt action when potential contamination is identified in food products and supplements.
