A New Record in the Making
At just 15 years old, Rajasthan Royals’ batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is making headlines as he approaches a historic milestone in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The young talent needs only six more sixes to surpass Abhishek Sharma’s record for the most sixes by an Indian batter in a single edition of the IPL. This could happen in the upcoming match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at Jaipur.
Sooryavanshi has been in fine form this season, scoring 400 runs in nine matches with an average of 44.44 and a strike rate of 238.09. His performance includes two fifties and a top score of 103. In addition to 34 fours, he has hit 37 sixes in the 19th season of the tournament.
In the 2024 season, Abhishek Sharma scored 484 runs in 16 innings, averaging 32.26 with a strike rate of 207.21. He also hit 42 sixes alongside 36 fours. Sooryavanshi is now on the verge of breaking this record, which would be a significant achievement for the young player.
A Remarkable Achievement
Sooryavanshi has already made history by hitting 99 sixes in just 27 innings, according to ESPNCricinfo. This is the highest number of maximums by any batter in T20 cricket before turning 20. One more six will take him to a century of sixes, a record that may be difficult for future generations to surpass.
Sooryavanshi’s overall performance in the IPL has been impressive. He has scored 652 runs in 16 matches at an average of 40.75 and a strike rate of 224.82. His achievements include two centuries and three fifties. Additionally, he is just one six away from becoming the fastest to hit 100 maximums in the T20 format.
