A New Cricket Record Set by a Young Sensation
In an extraordinary display of talent, 15-year-old Indian batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made history during the Rajasthan Royals vs Gujarat Titans (RR vs GT) match on Saturday. The young prodigy from Bihar became the first batter to hit 100 sixes in T20 cricket based on deliveries faced. During his 36-run innings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Sooryavanshi smashed three towering sixes, marking another milestone in his budding career.
Sooryavanshi’s achievement is particularly impressive as he reached 40 sixes in the IPL 2026 season. Starting the day with 37 sixes, he surpassed notable names like Virat Kohli, who had hit 38 sixes in the 2016 and 2024 seasons, and Suryakumar Yadav, who recorded 38 maximums in the 2025 season for the Mumbai Indians.
The current record for the most sixes in a single IPL season is held by Abhishek Sharma, who hit 42 sixes in the 2024 campaign. Sooryavanshi now has the opportunity to break this record when the Rajasthan Royals face the Delhi Capitals on 17th May at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

IPL’s All-Time Six-Hitting Leaders
The all-time six-hitting list in the IPL includes some of the biggest names in the sport. Former West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle holds the record with 357 sixes. His iconic 175 not out remains the highest score by a batter in T20 cricket, achieved during the 2013 season against Pune Warriors India.
Indian batting star Rohit Sharma is second on the list with 317 sixes, followed by Virat Kohli with 306. Legendary captain MS Dhoni is in fourth place, while AB de Villiers comes in fifth with 264 and 251 sixes respectively.
