A Moment to Remember
The young Chennai Super Kings wicketkeeper batter Kartik Sharma made a memorable celebration after his team defeated the Mumbai Indians by 8 wickets at the Chidambaram Stadium. Kartik played a crucial role alongside his captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, scoring 54 runs in 40 balls, ensuring CSK’s fourth win of the season.
The 20-year-old finished the chase in the first ball of the 19th over with a boundary off Trent Boult. With a reverse scoop over the short third, Kartik finished the chase and made a gun celebration towards the dugout.
A Legacy of Celebration
This celebration has roots in the past. The former captain of MS Dhoni became popular with the gun celebration he did in 2005 in October, after he scored a century against Sri Lanka in Jaipur in an ODI match. In that match, MS went on to score 183*, which is still his career’s best score in the format. Ironically, Kartik scored his best score today in IPL.
Post-Match Reflections
In the post-match presentation, when commentator Ravi Shastri asked about the celebration, Kartik said that he had made up his mind that once he wins it for CSK, he will do it.
