Mumbai Indians’ Captain Hardik Pandya Out of IPL 2026 Match
Mumbai Indians’ captain, Hardik Pandya, has been ruled out of his team’s second match of the Indian Premier League 2026 against the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 4. The all-rounder is currently not in good health, and as a result, Suryakumar Yadav has taken charge of leading the team in his absence.
“Hardik Pandya is not well, so he is not playing today,” Suryakumar Yadav confirmed during the pre-match briefing.
The match marks the first afternoon game of the 19th season of the tournament, with DC captain Axar Patel winning the toss and choosing to invite MI to bat first.
Hardik Pandya’s Leadership Journey
Hardik has been leading the five-time champions since 2024, and although he faced some challenges in his captaincy’s initial season, he quickly proved himself as an effective leader in 2025. Known for his ability to make crucial contributions both with the bat and the ball, Hardik has become a vital asset for Mumbai Indians.
He joined MI in 2015 and played a significant role in their three titles before moving to the Gujarat Titans in 2022. Under his leadership, GT lifted the IPL trophy in 2022 and reached the final in 2023. After leaving the franchise, Hardik returned to Mumbai ahead of the 17th season of the tournament.
