Yobe State Approves N59.8 Billion Budget for Infrastructure and Social Projects
The Yobe State Government has taken a significant step towards improving the quality of life for its residents by approving a budget of N59.8 billion. This substantial allocation is aimed at enhancing critical infrastructure and social sector projects across the state, with a focus on roads, power, healthcare, commerce, and sports.
The decision was made during a State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting led by Deputy Governor Idi Barde Gubana. During the meeting, the deputy governor praised the administration’s ongoing efforts to bolster food security and expedite infrastructural development. He highlighted how recent interventions are already benefiting residents. Following the meeting, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, informed journalists that the council ratified several memoranda to enhance living standards and stimulate economic growth.
Road Development: A Top Priority
Roads emerged as a key priority in the budget, receiving the largest allocation of N34.1 billion. This funding will support major projects such as the 59-kilometre Kaliyari–Bayamari road connecting Tarmuwa and Bursari local government areas. Additionally, the 53-kilometre Bayamari–Gaidam road linking Bursari and Gaidam will also benefit from this investment.
Commerce Sector Investments
In the commerce sector, N8.58 billion has been earmarked for the construction of the Jajimaji Modern Market. The budget also includes external works at the Machina and Buni-Yadi modern markets. These projects aim to boost trade and create more opportunities for local businesses.
Energy and Transport Initiatives
A budget of N5.35 billion was approved for transport and energy initiatives. This includes the procurement of high-capacity power generators, installation of underground armoured cables and switchgear at Government House, and the deployment of 2,200 solar-powered streetlights across 11 local government headquarters. Additional energy projects will see the construction of a 33KV transmission line from Bukarti to Kanamma, as well as the procurement of transformer substations and expansion of distribution networks in Kanamma.
Healthcare Improvements
In the health sector, N5.54 billion has been allocated to construct a new office complex for the Ministry of Health and Human Services and the Hospital Management Board headquarters. This investment also covers renovations at general hospitals in Damagum and Nangere, as well as the supply and installation of dental equipment at the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu.
Sports Development
Lastly, N3.35 billion has been allocated for further renovations on the ongoing reconstruction and upgrade of the 27 August Stadium in Damaturu. The goal is to enhance sports development within the state and provide better facilities for athletes and fans alike.
