A New Chapter for Dustin Martin
Richmond champion and AFL icon Dustin Martin is set to continue his local football journeys across the country. The former star has committed to playing for the Tasmania club Clarence on June 13, marking another exciting chapter in his post-retirement football career.
Martin made his return to the field recently, playing his first game since retiring from the top-tier league at the end of 2024. Over the weekend, he lined up for the Port Douglas Crocs in the Cairns League, where he managed to kick two goals. This performance highlighted his continued passion for the game and his ability to perform at a high level even after stepping away from professional competition.
Joining the Clarence Roos
Following his appearance with the Port Douglas Crocs, Martin will now travel down to the Apple Isle to join the SFL Premier League team, the Clarence Roos. This move brings him back to the club where his premiership teammate Jack Riewoldt once played, adding an extra layer of significance to his participation.
Clarence senior coach Grant Fagan, who is the brother of Brisbane premiership coach Chris, shared his excitement about Martin’s involvement. “It would be pretty close (to the biggest name at the club,” Fagan said on Triple M. “I was a bit shocked myself that it might happen, but for it to be confirmed, it’s pretty exciting. It’s been in the works for five or six weeks.”
Preparing for the Big Day
To ensure Martin is fully prepared for his upcoming match, he will train with the Clarence club on the Thursday before the game. Fagan also revealed that 20 lucky fans will have the opportunity to have dinner with ‘Dusty’ before he plays on Saturday, offering a unique chance for supporters to connect with one of the game’s most beloved figures.
A Special Arrangement
In order to accommodate Martin’s appearance, the Roos have swapped a home game with their opponent Kingborough. This adjustment highlights the significance of Martin’s involvement and the enthusiasm surrounding his return to the field.
Martin’s journey into local football has been a testament to his enduring love for the sport. His presence on the field not only brings excitement to the teams he joins but also inspires fans and fellow players alike. As he continues to explore different regions and clubs, Martin is proving that his impact on the game extends far beyond his time in the AFL.
With each game he plays, Martin adds new stories to his already impressive legacy. Whether it’s kicking goals, training with local teams, or connecting with fans, his contributions to the football community are invaluable. As he prepares for his next match with the Clarence Roos, all eyes will be on him to see what he can achieve on the field.
