Zegler’s Spooky Niall Horan Link on Claudia Winkleman

Hollywood Starlet and Irish Pop Icon Share Unexpected Connection on UK Chat Show

A surprising link between Hollywood’s rising star Rachel Zegler and global music sensation Niall Horan is set to be unveiled on an upcoming episode of The Claudia Winkleman Show. The West Side Story actress, aged 24, and the former One Direction frontman, 32, are among the distinguished guests gracing the BBC’s popular chat program.

Joining them in the studio for what promises to be a lively discussion are acclaimed comedians Guz Khan, 40, and Joanne McNally, 42, rounding out a formidable guest list.

During her conversation with the show’s charismatic host, Claudia Winkleman, 54, Zegler revealed a rather amusing childhood anecdote connecting her to Horan. She explained that her closest friend growing up was an ardent fan of the Irish singer.

“She had a cardboard cut-out of you in her bedroom,” Zegler shared with Horan, “so when we had sleepovers, do you know who watched me sleep?” This lighthearted revelation highlighted the widespread appeal of Horan’s music even in the most unexpected of places.

The conversation also delved into Zegler’s impressive theatrical achievements. The Golden Globe winner spoke candidly about her Olivier Award nomination for her portrayal of Eva Perón in the West End production of Evita. Reflecting on the musical’s iconic balcony scene, she expressed her admiration for its innovative staging.

“I thought it was the most amazing, innovative thing that’s ever happened,” Zegler commented. She further elaborated on the show’s immense popularity, noting the overwhelming crowds that gathered for the closing night performance. “There were more people at closing night outside, than there were sat inside… it went all the way down to the IKEA,” she recalled, painting a vivid picture of the fervent reception.

Adding to her list of accolades, Zegler also shared a remarkable personal achievement: breaking the record for the longest standing ovation at the historic London Palladium. This impressive feat naturally drew a witty response from fellow guest Joanne McNally, who has also graced the Palladium stage.

“I too played the London Palladium and broke a record… it was for wine sold,” McNally quipped, eliciting laughter from the audience. She playfully continued, “Maybe they wanted to stand for me too Rachel, but they couldn’t because they were too p****d.”

Niall Horan, shifting the focus to his own artistic endeavours, discussed the inspirations behind his latest musical offerings. He explained that his new single, ‘Dinner Party,’ is a narrative directly inspired by his early experiences meeting his current partner.

“It tells you exactly what happened from the night I met my girlfriend,” Horan revealed. He recounted the serendipitous encounter: “She was a late addition to a party… I offered her a drink and we got chatting.” While Horan insists they shared a kiss that evening, he admitted, “She says that we didn’t kiss that night, but I disagree, I think we did. But yeah, we’re still together which is a good thing.”

The discussion then naturally transitioned to the broader themes of hosting, culinary skills, and the art of the dinner party. When asked about his go-to dish, Horan confessed, “I can cook a little bit… I try to keep it basic enough, I do like a good bolognese.”

Zegler offered her own culinary comfort food, stating, “Beef stew is kind of my staple.” McNally, however, presented a more relaxed approach to entertaining. “I’ll attend, I won’t host… I’ll arrive when the food has been done and dusted and the party is beginning,” she admitted with a laugh. Guz Khan echoed this sentiment, humorously remarking, “Why would I remove jobs from the hard-working people at Nando’s? There is no need.”

Khan also took a moment to reflect on his past career as a teacher, describing his approach as being like a “good big brother/ fun uncle” to his students. In a heartwarming turn of events, two of his former pupils made a surprise appearance on stage, sharing how Khan’s influence had profoundly impacted their lives.

One former student shared their journey: “When you come from Coventry, and from a South Asian background, you’re not always pushed to do something creative. But I went to uni, I passed, I got an art degree, and I’ve just moved back from Toronto where I worked for two years abroad – all because I saw what you did, going outside the norms.” This poignant testimonial underscored the lasting positive effect Khan had on his students’ aspirations.

The Claudia Winkleman Show made its debut the previous week, also featuring a star-studded roster of guests including Jeff Goldblum, Jennifer Saunders, Vanessa Williams, and Tom Allen. Reflecting on her new hosting role, Winkleman expressed her gratitude and characteristic self-deprecation. “I can’t quite believe it and I’m incredibly grateful to the BBC for this amazing opportunity,” she stated. “I’m obviously going to be awful, that goes without saying, but I’m over the moon they’re letting me try.”

The Claudia Winkleman Show airs on Fridays at 10:40pm on BBC One.
