Escalation of Attacks on Ukraine
Kiev, April 25 – Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine overnight, resulting in at least five deaths and dozens of injuries, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The attacks targeted several cities, with Dnipro being one of the hardest hit.
In Dnipro alone, five people were killed, over 40 injured, and two individuals remain missing. Zelensky expressed concern about the ongoing violence, stating that Russia has been targeting residential areas with missile and drone attacks. According to the Air Force, a total of 619 Russian drones and 47 missiles were fired. Ukraine managed to intercept 580 drones and most of the Kh-101 cruise missiles and Kalibr missiles used in the attacks.
This marks another significant escalation in the conflict that has persisted since February 2022. Ukraine continues to defend itself against a full-scale Russian invasion, with the situation showing no signs of de-escalation.
Zelensky emphasized the importance of global awareness and support, stating that “the world must not remain silent about what is happening, and that this Russian war in Europe is not overshadowed by the war in Iran.” His message underscores the need for international solidarity and attention to the ongoing crisis.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defence Ministry reported that 127 Ukrainian drones were intercepted over the Volga region, as well as in the cities of Perm and Yekaterinburg further east. In Yekaterinburg, six people were injured, as reported by regional governor Denis Pasler through state news agency TASS.
