A Harrowing Experience Underwater
A holidaymaker has shared a disturbing experience involving a scuba diving instructor, highlighting the importance of safety and awareness during underwater activities. The incident occurred when Rasha Mediene, a 31-year-old content creator from Los Angeles, California, traveled solo to Egypt for a scuba diving course.
On March 1, she attended the first day of a €350 scuba diving course. According to Mediene, she met with the instructor who initially refrained from hugging her due to it being Ramadan and her being a Muslim. However, the situation took a turn when they went underwater.
Uncomfortable Interactions
Mediene claims that while underwater, the instructor started holding her hand as she recorded their dive on her camera. She described the instructor touching her bottom while in the water, which made her feel uncomfortable. The footage shows the two swimming while holding hands, before the teacher turns around and places his hand on Ms. Mediene’s behind and then her leg.
Despite her attempts to push him away, the instructor grasped hold of her legs again, seemingly trying to stop her from moving away. Mediene said the instructor showed off and even offered to drive her home once they were back on land, but she refused and returned to her hotel.

Vulnerability in the Water
MEDIENE, who also works as a lifeguard, explained that she was vulnerable because she did not know how to use her oxygen equipment and was alone in the water with the instructor. She emphasized that this vulnerability made the situation even more concerning.
The solo traveler posted the footage on social media, which has gathered over three million views. After seeing the footage online, the instructor contacted her and claimed he did not touch her inappropriately.

Strong Reaction and Advice
MEDIENE expressed her frustration, stating that she was extremely angry about being in the water. She mentioned that if she had been on land, she could have simply walked away. However, in the water, she felt trapped and powerless.
She urged women to research before booking scuba diving and to consider choosing a female instructor. Mediene emphasized that she did not show any signs of flirtation before getting in the water. She is known for being strict and direct, and she does not flirt with people she is not interested in.
Community Response
Commenters on Mediene’s video were shocked by the instructor’s behavior and branded him a ‘creep.’ Many found his actions unacceptable, especially considering the vulnerability of people underwater. One commenter said, “This made me angry.” Another added, “This is so wrong. I’m a certified diver. You did the right thing girl.”
A third comment stated, “They are preying on us even underwater?” while another remarked, “Diving is already a vulnerable space to be in without being touched inappropriately.”
MEDIENE’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of safety, awareness, and choosing reputable instructors when engaging in activities like scuba diving. Her experience highlights the need for vigilance and the importance of speaking out against inappropriate behavior.
