Boy George Criticized for ‘Giving Nothing’ in Key Eurovision Moment

Boy George has faced criticism for his performance at the dress rehearsal of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. The former Culture Club singer, whose real name is George O’Dowd, took part in the event alongside Italian singer Senhit. This marks Boy George’s first involvement in the annual competition, where he contributed lyrics and uncredited vocals to Senhit’s song, Superstar.

If the song qualifies, Senhit will represent San Marino for the third time in the contest. Recent footage from the rehearsal shows Boy George, 64, performing on stage wearing a large blue mirrored hat. He joined Senhit in singing the track, but many viewers felt the performance lacked energy. Social media users described his contribution as “very little,” with some critics suggesting he gave “absolutely nothing” during the act.

Fans reacted strongly to a clip shared by superTV247 on X. One user, jmdubz172, commented that Boy George was “giving absolutely nothing,” while niall5982 said the performance was “very little.” Another user, mariahscracker, remarked that Boy George “doesn’t know where he is,” and GStarRaw72 compared the performance to “someone wearing headphones on singing out of tune to a track.” Jack_SOfficial_ was even more critical, predicting: “Oh they are so not qualifying.”

San Marino is set to compete in the first semi-final on May 12 in Vienna, Austria. Alongside nine other countries, they will aim to secure a spot in the grand final. The top 10 qualifiers from each semi-final will then compete against the “Big Four” countries—UK, Italy, Germany, and France—which automatically qualify.

In other news, Boy George recently revealed that he was in Golders Green, London, when a terror attack occurred last month. He posted a video on X showing police tape blocking a street and wrote: “I was in Golders Green yesterday. I arrived just as the police presence was building. My heart goes out to the two Jewish victims and to their loved ones.”

He continued to express his feelings about the incident, saying: “I was in tears because you could feel panic in the air. These are just regular people getting on with their lives. London has always been a great multicultural city. Our Jewish community brings us so much. They are an integral part of the fabric of this city.”
