Rising Interest in Energy Efficient Homes Across Britain
Recent data has highlighted the growing interest among British homeowners in making their homes more energy efficient. This trend is reflected in the increasing number of searches for terms like ‘energy efficient homes’ and related keywords across various regions.
The estate agent Emoov analyzed Google search data to determine where there had been the most significant spikes in interest regarding energy-efficient home improvements between 2025 and 2026. The findings reveal a clear pattern of increased awareness and action towards greener living.
Top Cities with Increased Interest
Sunderland experienced the highest increase in interest, with a 58 per cent rise in searches for ‘energy-efficient homes’. Royal Tunbridge Wells followed closely with a 23.7 per cent increase. Chichester also saw a notable jump, with searches rising from 630 to 700, representing an 11 per cent increase.
Other cities that showed growth include Plymouth, Watford, Derby, Northampton, Middlesbrough, Stoke-on-Trent, and Poole. These cities demonstrate a gradual but consistent interest in energy efficiency.
Energy Bills on the Rise
As energy prices continue to climb, homeowners are increasingly looking for ways to reduce their bills. According to forecasts by experts at Cornwall Insight, the average energy price cap for a typical dual fuel household will increase by £288 per year from July. This brings the new cap to £1,929 for the period from July to September.
This surge in energy costs is attributed to ongoing conflicts in regions such as Iran, which have driven up global energy prices.
Cities with Declining Interest
Not all areas in Britain are showing the same level of enthusiasm for energy-efficient homes. Some cities have seen a significant drop in online searches for eco-friendly home improvements.
Chelmsford, for instance, saw a 66 per cent decrease in searches for energy-efficient homes in 2025 compared to 2024. Kingston upon Hull experienced a 62 per cent decline, while Dudley recorded a 41 per cent reduction in searches.
