Celeste Barber and Api Robin Announce Shock Separation After Two Decades
A wave of sadness has swept through the Australian entertainment scene with the confirmed separation of beloved comedian Celeste Barber and her long-term partner, Api Robin. The news, which broke on Friday night, marks the end of a 20-year journey for the couple, who share two sons.
Api Robin himself confirmed the heartbreaking development, subtly yet clearly signalling the change in their relationship status. He updated his Instagram profile description to read ‘Formerly Hot Husband’, a poignant nod to the affectionate moniker Barber often bestowed upon him.

The couple, who met in 2006 when Barber was just 21, went on to tie the knot in Bali seven years later. Their blended family includes their two sons, Lou Robin and Buddy Robin, alongside Robin’s two daughters from a previous marriage.
In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, Robin articulated the difficult nature of their decision. “The past few months have been incredibly challenging and deeply heartbreaking for us both,” he wrote, captioning his post with the somber phrase “Heavy hearts.” He continued, “After much reflection, the decision has been made to separate. There is still love and respect between us, but sadly we are at capacity and have come to recognise we may want for different things.”

Robin emphasised that their primary focus moving forward will be their children. “Our priority remains our children and their wellbeing,” he stated. “We kindly ask for privacy and understanding as we navigate this.” The outpouring of support has been immediate, with messages of well-wishes flooding in from fans and public figures alike, including Olympic swimming legend Libby Trickett and former Big Brother contestant Reggie Bird.
Celeste Barber, who has garnered international fame for her hilariously relatable parodies of celebrity photos and her sharp comedic skits, has yet to make a public statement regarding the separation. Her social media presence has often featured Robin, whom she affectionately dubbed her ‘hot husband’ and ‘Māori Adonis’.
In past interviews and social media posts, Barber has spoken with her signature wit and humour about their relationship dynamics. Back in 2019, she quipped about the pressures of being married to someone she clearly adored, stating, “It’s harder to live with than I originally thought. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m no dropped pie, but there isn’t a ‘hot wifey’ hashtag hanging around my neck.”

She often described their meeting as love at first sight, playfully outlining their roles in the partnership early on. “I’m hilarious. You’re breathtaking. I believe this is something that needs to take place in any relationship when the roles are so obvious,” she once said. She even humorously suggested that if they had met on a dating show, she would have been ready to marry him on the spot.
Barber’s affectionate descriptions of Robin have often highlighted his admirable qualities. “He’s kind, smart, caring and very, VERY patient,” she declared. “He’s a fun dad and has really thrown his back into tolerating me. I love him with all the wine in the fridge.”

The last public tribute from Robin to his wife came in November, following Barber’s successful “Backup Dancer” world tour in the United States. He expressed his immense pride, posting, “What an encore! Thank you! So proud of you.”
As the couple begins this new and challenging chapter, the focus remains on their children and their shared desire for privacy during this undoubtedly difficult time. The Australian public, who have come to love Barber’s candid and humorous take on life, will be eagerly awaiting further updates, while respecting their need for space.
