Rajasthan Royals Suffer Second Consecutive Loss
Rajasthan Royals (RR) faced their second straight defeat at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Friday night. Delhi Capitals emerged victorious by seven wickets in a high-scoring match that kept fans on the edge of their seats. The loss came despite a strong performance from the home team, with key players contributing to the total score.
Tributes to Tragic Fan Deaths
In a touching moment after the game, skipper Axar Patel and coach Hemang Badani took the opportunity to honor two fans who had passed away recently. Patel dedicated the win to two young fans who lost their lives in a tragic road accident. Speaking after the match, he said, “Lastly, after the tragedy involving some of our fans, post the last game against RCB, I just want to say—sorry for the tragic loss, and this win is dedicated to them. Our DC family lost two young members.”
Coach Hemang Badani also paid tribute to the young fans and offered condolences to their families. He stated, “This win is for two young fans, Yagya and Abhav Bhatia, who aren’t with us anymore. You have done them proud; they were massive fans and were with us for a while. You might have seen their images on social media. This is for them.” He then congratulated his team for the victory, which was met with a round of applause from the crowd.
Tragic Road Accident Claims Lives of Two Fans
The two fans, Yagya and Abhav Bhatia, aged 20 and 14 respectively, tragically lost their lives in a road accident on the night of 27th April. They were on their way home after the game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) when a truck hit them while they were riding a motorcycle in Central Delhi. Emergency services arrived quickly, and the pair were taken to a nearby hospital where they were pronounced dead upon arrival.
A relative of one of the victims shared a heart-wrenching account with news agency PTI. They said, “The youngest boy was in a call with his father, but it soon went silent, and the phone fell from his hands. One of the passersby then picked up the call and told the family about the tragic incident that had taken place.”
Strong Batting Performance by Rajasthan Royals
In the match, Riyan Parag won the toss and opted to bat first. Mitchell Starc got the crucial wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal for six runs, while Kyle Jamieson dismissed Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for four. Parag led the batting charts with an impressive 90 runs off 50 balls, and Donovan Ferreira contributed an unbeaten 47 off just 14 balls. The home side managed to post a total of 225 runs.
Delhi Capitals’ Winning Chase
In response, Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul delivered a stellar opening partnership, scoring 110 runs in just 57 balls. Nissanka scored 62 runs off 33 balls, while veteran batter Rahul was the standout performer with 75 runs off 40 balls. The 34-year-old was named player of the match for his efforts. Ashutosh Sharma (25) and Tristan Stubbs (19) then guided the team to victory with five balls to spare and seven wickets remaining, securing two crucial points for Delhi Capitals.
