Dockers edge Magpies by six points in AFL’s thrilling Adelaide clash

Fremantle Secures Dramatic Victory Over Collingwood

Fremantle delivered a thrilling comeback to overcome Collingwood in a rain-soaked contest at Adelaide Oval, securing a six-point win and extending their winning streak to four games. The match was marked by intense moments, key performances, and crucial decisions that ultimately decided the outcome.

At three-quarter time, Collingwood led by four points, but Fremantle’s Jye Amiss and Matthew Johnson proved pivotal in the final quarter, kicking two consecutive goals to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. This win moves the Dockers to 4-1 on the ladder, placing them second, while Collingwood (2-3) faces a tough road ahead after failing to capitalize on early opportunities.

Key Performances and Tactical Adjustments

Justin Longmuir’s Fremantle side showed remarkable resilience, especially in the second half. Their improved intensity after the break was evident as Isaiah Dudley opened the scoring with a goal that energized the crowd. Amiss and Dudley followed up with two more majors, giving Fremantle a nine-point lead in a short span.

Collingwood, however, had its moments. Nick Daicos, despite playing through discomfort due to a corked calf, delivered a standout performance with 31 disposals. His efforts were matched by a strong defensive display from Billy Frampton and Brayden Maynard, who kept Josh Treacy and Patrick Voss goalless.

“We defended the ground really well,” said Collingwood coach Craig McRae. “We didn’t last week (against the Lions)… we’re improving parts of our game.”

Injuries and Setbacks

The match was not without its challenges. Jordan De Goey suffered a knee injury in the second quarter when he was tackled by Heath Chapman. Later, he hit his head on the turf and failed a head injury assessment, ruling him out of next Thursday’s clash against Carlton.

Fremantle’s ruckman Luke Jackson was instrumental, particularly in the second half, where he dominated with 38 hit-outs and 17 disposals. His performance set up Caleb Serong, who recorded 24 disposals. However, Sean Darcy, another ruckman, failed a concussion test after a collision in the second term and will miss next Sunday’s derby against West Coast.

Fremantle’s defense also shone, with Jordan Clark (28 disposals) and Luke Ryan (25) leading the way, alongside Alex Pearce, who made 10 intercepts.

Controversial Moments and Missed Opportunities

Collingwood started strongly, dominating the first quarter but struggling to convert their chances into goals. They scored just 1.2 from 18 inside-50s, allowing Fremantle to stay in the contest. At half-time, Fremantle trailed by eight points, but they made significant adjustments in the second half.

Angus Anderson, making his senior debut for Collingwood, provided stability with his first goal, while Jack Crisp helped the Magpies take the lead at three-quarter time. However, Collingwood’s inability to maintain momentum cost them dearly.

Amiss’s second goal in the rain reduced the margin to a point, and Johnson’s goal on the run put Fremantle in front. Josh Treacy’s contested mark under pressure sealed the win for Fremantle, who held on desperately in the final moments.

Looking Ahead

With this victory, Fremantle continues to build momentum, while Collingwood must regroup and address their missed opportunities. Both teams will look to improve in their upcoming matches, with Collingwood facing Carlton and Fremantle preparing for a derby against West Coast.
