Exclusive: Barry Williams Speaks Out on The Brady Bunch Revival

Barry Williams Speaks on Potential Brady Bunch Reboot

Barry Williams, the actor who famously played Greg Brady in the iconic 1970s sitcom The Brady Bunch, has finally addressed whether he would consider returning for a potential reboot of the beloved show. At 71 years old, Williams shared his thoughts with New Idea, revealing that he would be open to reuniting with his former castmates.

“One of our producers, Lloyd J. Schwartz, says, ‘The Brady Bunch is a lot of things, dead isn’t one of them,'” Williams said. “There’s always talk and things, it’s just trying to find the right timing. I love my Brady mates, we still carry on our relationships and are all still friends.”

This statement comes amid ongoing speculation about a new version of the classic series. The last time the cast reunited was during the TV miniseries A Very Brady Renovation in 2019, but there have been persistent rumors about a full-scale reboot.

Rumors and Setbacks

Susan Olsen, who portrayed Cindy Brady, had previously claimed that a reboot of The Brady Bunch was in development at CBC Studios before it was ultimately scrapped. She suggested that the project was abandoned due to her political views.

The idea of a revival has not been without its challenges. Producer Lloyd J. Schwartz confirmed that Florence Henderson, who played Carol Brady, had been involved in discussions about a reboot before her passing. According to Schwartz, the proposed show would have seen Mike Brady’s death, with Carol eventually marrying one of Greg’s friends.

“We had talked to CBS about it, and I think we were going to go through Adam Sandler’s company,” Schwartz told Woman’s World. “I had read in the paper—or maybe online—that Florence was dating men in their 50s while she was in her 80s. So, I thought, ‘Wouldn’t that be interesting?'”

However, Florence passed away on November 24, 2016, at the age of 82, ending any chance of her appearing in the proposed reboot. Despite this setback, the legacy of The Brady Bunch continues to live on.

A Legacy That Endures

The Brady Bunch originally aired on ABC from 1969 until 1974. The sitcom was canceled due to declining ratings, but it has since become a pop-culture icon. While it never reached the top of the ratings charts during its original run, the show has remained a nostalgic staple in television history.

Over the years, there have been several revivals of The Brady Bunch, including The Brady Bunch Hour in 1976, The Brady Girls Get Married in 1981, and A Very Brady Christmas in 1988. However, no official announcement has been made regarding a full reboot.

Why Did The Brady Bunch Get Cancelled?

The cancellation of The Brady Bunch was primarily due to a drop in viewership. After five seasons, the show was abruptly pulled from the air. Despite this, the series has maintained a strong cultural presence, with fans continuing to celebrate its enduring charm.

While the possibility of a reboot remains uncertain, Barry Williams’ recent comments suggest that the door is still open for a potential reunion. As long as the timing is right, the cast may yet come together once more.
