The Final Stretch of the Premier League Season
With just 12 matches remaining in the Premier League season, it’s clear that we are approaching the most critical phase of the 2025-26 campaign. As temperatures gradually rise, so too does the intensity of the competition. At the top of the table, Arsenal fans are cautiously optimistic, sitting six points ahead of their closest rivals, Manchester City. While Pep Guardiola’s team has never been counted out, there are no other serious challengers for the title.
But what about the rest of the pack? As with this season, the English teams’ performances in European competitions are likely to influence who finishes fifth and secures a spot in the Champions League next term. With the race for a top-five finish still wide open, the final stretch promises to be one of the most exciting parts of the season.
Aston Villa: A Strong Position, But Injuries Could Be a Problem
Aston Villa currently sit in third place, with an eight-point lead over Liverpool and 13 games left to play. This is a strong position, especially considering the bottom seven teams still have games to come. However, Villa faces a major challenge in the form of injuries in midfield. Key players such as Boubacar Kamara, John McGinn, and especially Youri Tielemans are missing, which has affected the team’s fluidity and incision.

The player who could make a difference in the coming weeks is Amadou Onana, the club’s record signing. His physical presence and passing ability could provide the stability needed in the middle of the park. However, his fitness has often been a concern, and Emery will need him to step up if Villa is to maintain their position.
Manchester United: Momentum Is Key
Manchester United currently sit in fourth place, with a decent run of form under Michael Carrick. The absence of European football and cup distractions has allowed the team to focus on the league, and the door is wide open for a top-five finish. However, maintaining momentum will be crucial.

One player who needs to step up is Benjamin Sesko. Despite scoring four goals in his last five games, there is still room for improvement. A missed opportunity against Tottenham could prove costly if United falter in the coming weeks.
Chelsea: A Squad Full of Potential
Chelsea currently sit in fifth place, with a strong squad and a manager, Liam Rosenior, who has quickly won over his players. They finished fourth last season and are in a good position now. However, some naivety could cost them, especially with seven different players being sent off this season.

Liam Delap is the key player who needs to find his scoring touch. Although Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer have been in good form, Delap must start contributing more if Chelsea are to secure a top-five finish.
Liverpool: A Champion Team, But Struggles Remain
Liverpool, as reigning champions, have the potential to beat anyone when at their best. However, they have only won six of their last 20 league games, and injuries and lack of depth are concerns. Mohamed Salah has struggled this season, scoring just four league goals and none since November.

Salah and Cody Gakpo both need to improve their goal-scoring form, and the defense remains vulnerable. If Liverpool cannot find consistency, they may miss out on the Champions League.
Brentford: Exceeding Expectations
Brentford, currently in seventh place, have exceeded expectations after losing key players and their manager during the summer. Igor Thiago has been a standout performer, scoring 17 league goals this season. However, their inexperience in high-pressure situations could be a problem.

Keith Andrews has proven doubters wrong, and Dango Ouattara is crucial in lightening the load on Thiago’s shoulders. Both players will need to continue performing consistently if Brentford are to push for a top-five finish.
Everton: Ambitious Goals, But Challenges Remain
Everton, currently in eighth place, have a solid defense and exciting players like Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Iliman Ndiaye. However, their home form has dipped, and they have over-performed their expected goals (xG) tally. Jarrad Branthwaite is a key player who has been sidelined due to injury, and his return could help.

Summer signing Tyler Dibling needs to improve, especially with Jack Grealish ruled out for the remainder of the season. Everton’s ambitions for a European spot may be ambitious, but they have the potential to achieve something special.
Sunderland: A Long Shot, But Not Impossible
Sunderland, currently in ninth place, are considered a long shot for a top-five finish. However, they have a strong home record and a chance to face Chelsea in their final game of the season. Granit Xhaka is their on-pitch leader, and his return from injury could be crucial.

However, their away form has been poor, and once the initial momentum of promotion fades, opponents may become more cautious. If Sunderland can maintain their home form and Xhaka returns, they could push for a European spot.
