Honda has continued its strategy to make hybrid vehicles more accessible, with the brand significantly reducing the price of entry into the hybrid ZR-V by approximately $10,000. This move is aimed at broadening the appeal of hybrid technology among Australian consumers.
The ZR-V will still be available in a base petrol variant, priced from $39,900 (drive-away). However, this is more expensive than the previous petrol model. The rest of the ZR-V range is now exclusively hybrid, with prices ranging from $43,400 for the new e:HEV X to $51,900 on the top-spec all-wheel drive grade. This represents a notable reduction compared to the previous model.
Honda’s Shift to Hybrid and Competition
Honda is following Toyota’s lead by transitioning its entire lineup to hybrid-only models from next year. This shift is expected to intensify competition between the 2026 Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CR-V. The ZR-V is positioned as a strong contender against several popular family SUVs, including the Hyundai Kona, available in petrol, hybrid, and electric variants, as well as the hybrid-only Toyota Corolla Cross.
While the hybrid Kona (starting at $39,950) and Corolla Cross (starting at $37,440) are cheaper on paper, their pricing does not include on-road costs, which can add up to $5,000. In contrast, Honda’s pricing is drive-away, which includes these additional costs.
Performance and Interior Features
Powertrain options remain unchanged for the new model. The 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine continues to produce 131kW/240Nm, while the 2.0-litre four-cylinder hybrid delivers 135kW and 315Nm.
Inside the ZR-V, there is a 9.0-inch central touchscreen and a 10.2-inch digital driver display, along with an eight-speaker audio system. Cloth seats come as standard, but some higher-spec models feature synthetic and synthetic leather seats.
Like the newly launched CR-V, the 2026 ZR-V now includes Google Built-in with Google Maps, Play, and voice command, as well as post-collision braking, the latest Honda Connect app, and a safety system software upgrade.
