Ian Wright has made a bold statement, suggesting that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal could be remembered as the greatest team in the club’s history if they manage to win both the Premier League and the Champions League. This would mark a significant achievement for the Gunners, who have not claimed the top-tier European trophy since 2006.
The recent 1-0 victory over West Ham at the London Stadium brought Arsenal closer to their first league title since 2004. The match was a tense affair, with the Hammers coming close to taking the lead early on. However, David Raya made a crucial save to deny Mateus Fernandes from close range.
As the game approached its conclusion, Leandro Trossard broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute, securing a vital win for Arsenal. Despite West Ham’s efforts, including a last-minute goal by Callum Wilson that was later ruled out due to a VAR review, the Gunners held on to their narrow advantage.
This win has placed Arsenal five points clear of Manchester City in the Premier League table, although City still has a game in hand. The race for the title is far from over, but the momentum seems to be firmly in Arsenal’s favor.

A Premier League title in 22 years is now within Arsenal’s grasp, and the team is also set to face holders Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the Champions League final. If they can overcome this challenge, it would mark a historic moment for the club.
Wright believes that winning both trophies would elevate Arteta’s current squad above even the legendary Invincibles era led by Arsene Wenger. Speaking on Sky Sports, he expressed his confidence in the current team’s ability to achieve what the Invincibles could not.
‘I think so,’ Wright said when asked whether a double would place this Arsenal team above the Invincibles. ‘I would put them above the Invincibles simply because this team has the capability of being invincible in the Champions League and to win the Premier League as well.’
He added: ‘As great as that Invincible team was and the individuals they had, this team will surpass them with what they’ve done because they will have done something that not even that great team did.’

Wright emphasized the journey that Arteta and his players have undertaken to reach this point. He praised the manager’s leadership and the way the squad has been built to perform under pressure.
‘They’re obviously playing a really good PSG side and it will be a battle of styles, but they have got themselves there and they deserve to be there,’ he said. ‘They’ve built this squad and got the players on the bench to help finish games. They’ve done it all up until this point.’
He concluded: ‘If they can finish it off, which I’m praying they can, of course they have to go down as Arsenal’s best team in history.’
