Mercedes Bolsters Leadership with Bradley Lord Appointed Deputy Team Principal
Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team has announced a significant internal restructure, appointing Bradley Lord to the newly formalised position of Deputy Team Principal. This strategic move aims to further bolster the leadership capabilities of the championship-winning outfit, providing enhanced support to Toto Wolff, the team’s existing Team Principal and CEO.
Lord, a long-standing and integral figure within the Mercedes F1 operation, has been with the Brackley-based squad since 2013. Initially joining as Communications Manager, his career within the team has seen a steady progression of responsibilities. Most recently, he held the crucial roles of Team Representative and Chief Communications Officer, playing a pivotal part in shaping the team’s external and internal messaging.
The decision to elevate Lord to Deputy Team Principal is described by Mercedes as a formalisation of duties that have already been organically growing over recent years. This change is not intended to diminish or alter Wolff’s overarching responsibilities but rather to create a more robust and capable senior leadership structure.

“With the growth of our team and Formula 1, the scope of our operations and associated responsibilities at a senior level has grown significantly,” explained Toto Wolff in a statement released by the team. “We have therefore taken this opportunity to put in place a change that has effectively been operating in practice for some time. While my role and overall responsibilities will not change one millimetre, Bradley’s work as deputy team principal will further enhance the capability of our leadership group and provide continued support for me as our team principal and CEO.”
Wolff further elaborated on the rationale behind the appointment, highlighting Lord’s dedication and extensive tenure with the team. “Bradley is a dedicated and long-serving member of our organisation who has played an important part in the team becoming the most successful of the modern era. Aligning our structure in this way ensures our leadership group can focus fully on the areas where they can add the greatest value and is optimised to meet the demands of a rapidly growing sport.”
The appointment of Lord to Deputy Team Principal is effective immediately. This move signifies Mercedes’ commitment to refining its operational efficiency and strategic planning as the sport continues its rapid expansion and evolution.
