A Dream Final for Crystal Palace
Oliver Glasner, the departing manager of Crystal Palace, has shared his hopes for a memorable farewell as his team prepares for the Conference League final. The Eagles are just 90 minutes away from achieving a dream that could mark the end of Glasner’s transformative tenure at the club. Their opponent in the final is Rayo Vallecano, and a victory would not only bring silverware but also secure a spot in the Europa League next season.
Glasner expressed his desire for the team to aim high, stating that the best gift they could give him would be the opportunity to watch them compete in the Europa League. He emphasized that this would allow the players to build on the success they have achieved and continue their journey in European competition.
Palace chairman Steve Parish has praised Glasner for elevating the club to an unprecedented level. On Tuesday evening in Saxony, Glasner challenged the team to set ambitious goals and not limit themselves. He mentioned that he had a farewell event for himself and encouraged the players to focus on winning the final, not just for the trophy but for the future opportunities it would bring.
Glasner highlighted the importance of mindset, stating that creating a successful environment where every player gives their best is crucial. He hopes that the team will approach the final with confidence and the desire to win the Europa League next season.
Key Players and Fitness
Glasner revealed that Chris Richards and Adam Wharton were available for training on Tuesday morning. However, he emphasized that he would only select a starting XI if the players are 100% fit. This shows his commitment to ensuring the team is in the best possible condition for the final.

A Historic Achievement
The 51-year-old manager led Palace to their first major silverware when they defeated Manchester City in the 2025 FA Cup final at Wembley. This victory was followed by another triumph as they beat Liverpool to claim the Community Shield. However, this success came with its challenges, as the club faced legal turmoil due to a multi-club ownership conflict involving former co-owner John Textor.
Palace appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), but their appeal was denied. For the 13,000 fans who have traveled to Germany, a victory in Leipzig would mean redemption and a chance to celebrate their team’s achievements.

Strong Relationship with the Club
Despite the challenges, Glasner maintained a strong relationship with Palace’s front office. This was especially evident during a difficult January when he announced his decision to leave at the end of the season. He also navigated a period of poor form that followed, showing his dedication to the club.
Captain Dean Henderson shared that the players created a tribute video for their boss, who he described as a “huge miss.” Glasner is looking forward to watching his team engage in a traditional half-hour of head tennis one final time in training tomorrow.
“It’s one of the best moments for me,” said Glasner. “Because I see kids playing football. They are laughing and joking. I hope they are also laughing and joking tomorrow, and they are not introverted because they are nervous. Then we have the best chance to show a great performance.”
Henderson added: “The boys are pretty calm. We’ve been here before. We know what it takes.”
