Peter Jones’ Tearful £100k Investment: A “Gift to Humanity”

Heartwarming Dragons’ Den Pitch Leaves Viewers in Tears as Entrepreneur’s Generosity Shines Through

A recent episode of the popular BBC One show, Dragons’ Den, delivered an emotional punch that had viewers reaching for the tissues. Rome Haghighat, founder of the wellness brand Health & Holistics, presented his innovative sea moss business to a panel of esteemed investors, including Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden, Touker Suleyman, Steven Bartlett, and guest Dragon Tinie Tempah. However, it was Rome’s deeply personal story of overcoming adversity and his commitment to giving back that truly captivated the Dragons and the audience alike.

Rome didn’t shy away from detailing his challenging upbringing in Tottenham, North London. His journey saw him navigate the youth system and experience life in various care homes. This difficult start, however, forged in him a profound desire to support others. He revealed the establishment of a not-for-profit youth organisation, a testament to his dedication to helping young individuals kickstart their own careers and avoid the pitfalls he himself faced.

It was this powerful narrative of resilience and altruism that visibly moved veteran Dragon Peter Jones. Fighting back his own emotions, Jones declared Rome to be a “gift to humanity.” He elaborated, “Anybody that can go through life and then give back the way that you have is an absolute credit.” The sincerity in his voice and the visible struggle to compose himself left no doubt about the impact of Rome’s story.

Rome, visibly touched by Jones’s heartfelt praise, expressed his gratitude. The moment resonated deeply with viewers watching at home, who took to social media to share their admiration. On X (formerly Twitter), a user named Gloria wrote, “So pleased Rome achieved the investment he wanted. Inspirational man.” Harrison Nash echoed the sentiment, commenting, “Rome did a super presentation… Peter Jones was rightly inspired and emotional,” while Suzy simply labelled the episode “brilliant.” Another viewer, John, praised Rome as a “remarkable North London bloke” who “deserved that support,” noting, “I’ve never seen Peter look so emotional.”

A Lucrative Deal for a Worthy Cause

As the final pitch of the evening, Rome’s presentation proved to be the most impactful, securing a significant investment from the Dragons. Collectively, Peter Jones, Touker Suleyman, Steven Bartlett, and Tinie Tempah offered £100,000 in exchange for a 33% stake in Health & Holistics. Ultimately, Rome opted to partner with Peter Jones, Steven Bartlett, and Tinie Tempah, who subsequently reduced their combined equity to 21%. This investment will fuel the growth of his burgeoning wellness brand, which officially launched in 2024.

The core of Rome’s business lies in supplements crafted from sea moss, a nutrient-dense red algae sourced from the Caribbean. His product line also features a range of other potent ingredients, including shilajit, turmeric, ginger, bladderwrack, burdock, spirulina, and ashwagandha. Rome has a personal connection to these ingredients, having previously used them to manage inflammation during his time as a Muay Thai fighter.

Guest Dragon’s Unique Perspective

The episode also provided insight into the approach of guest Dragon, Tinie Tempah. He had expressed his desire to bring a “different” perspective to the Den, contrasting with the more traditionally profit-focused strategies of some of his fellow investors.

“A lot of the Dragons are so seasoned in what they do, some have done 100s, if not 1000s of investments, putting myself in their shoes, I would just be looking for the profits,” Tinie explained. As a “creative entrepreneur,” he draws parallels between his music career and his approach to investing. He elaborated, “I’m used to going into a studio and someone painting an idea that hasn’t even come into fruition yet and understanding what they’re saying. People say I haven’t made this song yet, but here’s a skeleton, and I’m going to do this and this, and then I’m going to mix it, then I’m going to release it, and then it might become a hit… I think using that creative approach, I was just a little bit more open-minded.”

This blend of business acumen and a creative, empathetic outlook proved to be a winning combination, not only for Rome’s business but also for the overall emotional resonance of the episode.

Dragons’ Den continues to be a platform where compelling personal stories can shine alongside promising business ventures. The show airs every Thursday at 8pm on BBC One.
