Adelaide United Dominates Perth Glory with a Convincing 4-0 Victory
Adelaide United delivered a commanding performance at Coopers Stadium, securing a decisive 4-0 A-League Men’s triumph over Perth Glory on Friday night. The Reds showcased a fluid and dominant display, with goals from Juan Muniz and Jonny Yull in the first half setting the tone. A spectacular team goal, expertly finished by Luka Jovanovic shortly after halftime, effectively sealed the victory. The icing on the cake came in added time, with substitute Luke Duzel adding a stunning solo effort to round off a memorable night for the home side.
This latest win marks the second consecutive victory for Adelaide United, propelling them to third place on the league table. They now sit level on 29 points with second-placed Auckland FC, demonstrating their growing momentum in the competition.

Adelaide United’s coach, Airton Andrioli, expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance. “Very pleasing with the way we started the game, the way we managed the game and the way we finished the game, so it was a very good performance,” he stated, highlighting the team’s complete control throughout the match.
Clinical Finishing and Defensive Errors Decide the First Half
The breakthrough for the Reds came in the 12th minute. Following a foul on Ethan Alagich on the edge of the penalty area, Juan Muniz stepped up to take the free-kick. The Spanish playmaker delivered a perfectly weighted shot, curling it into the far corner of the net. Despite Perth’s goalkeeper, Matt Sutton, getting a hand to the ball, he was unable to prevent it from crossing the line.
Perth Glory struggled to create clear-cut chances throughout the initial stages. However, a moment of concern for the Adelaide defence arose in the 26th minute when full-back Charbel Shamoon’s ambitious trivela shot narrowly missed Joshua Smits’ post.
The home side doubled their advantage just three minutes later, capitalising on a defensive lapse from the Glory. Ryan White seized possession in midfield and played a perfectly timed through ball to Luka Jovanovic. Jovanovic unleashed a powerful shot from 15 metres, which was initially saved by Sutton. However, the rebound fell kindly to Jonny Yull, who met it with a first-time volley from the edge of the box, rifling it into the net for his first A-League goal.
A Masterclass in Team Play Seals the Deal
Adelaide United picked up where they left off in the second half, extending their lead within three minutes of the restart. The Reds orchestrated a breathtaking team goal, moving the ball from defence to attack with a series of incisive passes that left the Perth defence chasing shadows.
The move began deep in Adelaide’s half with Ethan Alagich winning the ball. He exchanged passes with Jovanovic before releasing Ryan White. White then laid the ball off to Yaya Dukuly, whose blistering pace saw him surge towards goal. Dukuly expertly threaded a pass back to White, who, in turn, squared the ball for an unmarked Luka Jovanovic to tap into an empty net, showcasing a superb understanding and execution of team strategy.
Late Drama and a Memorable Solo Effort
The match saw a moment of controversy in the 78th minute when Perth’s Andriano Lebib was initially shown a red card for high contact with Adelaide substitute Brody Burkitt. However, following a review by the VAR and consultation with referee Shaun Evans, the decision was overturned, much to the relief of the visitors.
As regulation time drew to a close, Luke Duzel, who had come on as a substitute, put the finishing touches on Adelaide’s dominant performance with a truly memorable solo goal. Duzel showcased exceptional dribbling skills, weaving past and dancing through three Perth defenders before firing a shot past Sutton. Once again, the Glory goalkeeper managed to get a glove to the ball, but it was ultimately too powerful to keep out, capping off a brilliant individual effort and a comprehensive team victory.
Reflecting on the match, Perth Glory coach Adam Griffiths was candid about his team’s shortcomings. “It wasn’t good enough. We had a good turn-out of supporters, Perth Glory fans turning up for us, and that was not good enough,” he admitted, acknowledging the significant gap in performance between the two sides.
