Star trio leads Storm to victory against streak

Melbourne Storm Ends Losing Streak with Strong Performance

Melbourne Storm delivered a standout performance in their recent match against the Wests Tigers, ending a seven-game losing streak with a convincing 44-16 victory at AAMI Park. The win was a much-needed boost for the team, who had struggled through a challenging period this season.

The Storm’s captain, Harry Grant, played a pivotal role, showcasing his leadership and determination throughout the game. Alongside him, playmakers Cameron Munster and Jahrome Hughes also put in their best performances of the season, helping steer the team to a crucial win.

Coach Craig Bellamy expressed his relief after the victory, highlighting the importance of the win for the team’s morale. “Harry’s game was just inspirational… Hughesy and Mun (Munster), they just had a bit of a look in their eye where, ‘OK, we’re going to take control of this and we’ll see the 80 minutes out’,” Bellamy said. He added that the team had stuck to their game plan for most of the match, which ultimately led to the success.

However, there was a setback for the Storm when fullback Sua Faalogo suffered a suspected facial fracture during a collision with teammate Jahrome Hughes. Scans are scheduled for Monday to determine the extent of the injury. Faalogo has been a key player for the Storm this season, scoring 11 tries, including the opening try of this match.

The Storm started the game strongly, taking an early 20-0 lead and showing signs of their usual dominance. Will Warbrick, Cameron Munster, and Jahrome Hughes all crossed the line by the 12th minute, with Grant making it easy for the team with his strong dummy half plays.

Munster’s try was particularly significant, as it marked his first score in 24 matches. His return to form comes at a crucial time, with State of Origin selection on the horizon.

The Tigers, however, showed resilience, with Taylan May scoring their first try of the match in the 25th minute. May managed to drag four defenders over the line, giving the Tigers a glimmer of hope. Unfortunately, the Storm quickly regained control, with Grant scoring a try to extend the lead to 26-4 at halftime.

Despite the undermanned Tigers’ efforts, the Storm maintained their momentum in the second half. Will Warbrick scored another try off a kick, ensuring the hosts started the second half on a positive note.

The Tigers continued to show why they have been one of the form teams of the season, with Taylan May and Luke Laulilii scoring a try to narrow the gap to 32-16. However, the Storm’s star player, Cameron Munster, sealed the victory with a try that combined the efforts of Grant and Hughes, securing a win for the Storm and marking their first consecutive losses of the season for the Tigers.

Coach Benji Marshall of the Wests Tigers acknowledged the team’s struggles, especially in the first half. “It was tough. It just seemed no matter what we did, we couldn’t find a way out of turning the momentum that they had,” he said. Marshall praised the Tigers’ fight in the second half but admitted that the team wasn’t good enough to secure the win.

“Credit to them. They’ve been in a hole, they fought their way out today.”
