Merrylands Stabbing: One Dead, Two Critical After Violent Frenzy
A quiet Tuesday morning in Sydney’s western suburb of Merrylands was shattered by a horrific stabbing spree that has left one man dead and two others in critical condition. The alleged attacker was apprehended by police shortly after the violent incident, which unfolded around 10 am.
The alleged offender, whose identity has not yet been publicly released, was captured on security footage moments after the attacks. The footage shows him, dressed in a white shirt and hat, running towards a woman pushing a pram along Railway Terrace. He appeared to be out of breath, his hands resting on his hips, before he sprinted past.

The alleged stabbings are believed to have occurred on Merrylands Road, where a crime scene was established spanning approximately 50 metres. Police state that the man used a weapon, thought to be a kitchen knife measuring up to 30cm in length, to attack multiple individuals before fleeing the scene.
Victims and Injuries
Emergency services were swiftly on the scene. Two individuals were rushed to Westmead Hospital in critical condition:
- A 22-year-old man suffering from severe neck injuries.
- A 47-year-old woman who sustained wounds to her abdomen and chest.
Tragically, a third man, estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Eyewitness Account of the Aftermath
The harrowing aftermath of the attack was witnessed by local resident Joseph Ruissi. He described seeing a man attempting to provide aid to the female victim.
“Blood was pouring down the side of her neck and across her chest and she was coughing blood from her mouth,” Ruissi told reporters. He observed a shopkeeper trying to stem the bleeding. “She started to slump to the side and you could tell she was dying,” he added, expressing the sheer terror of the moment. “Every second felt like a year. It was absolutely terrible. I just pray to God that whoever survived is going to get better.”

Police Response and Investigation
Police successfully apprehended the alleged offender in the backyard of a property on Smythe Street in Merrylands. He was subsequently taken to Granville Police Station. While a weapon has been recovered by authorities, it remains unconfirmed whether it is the knife used in the alleged attacks.
Superintendent Simon Glasser described the incident as “highly confronting” and a “horrible offence to have taken place in Merrylands just prior to lunchtime with lots of people around.”

Superintendent Glasser also provided some insight into the alleged offender, stating that he is known to police for petty crime and has a history of mental health incidents. “He is not linked to the address he was located,” Glasser noted, but confirmed the individual is a local to the Merrylands area. “Most of his history with us is mental health-related,” he reiterated.

Crucially, police have confirmed that there was no prior relationship between the three victims, who were all alone on Merrylands Road at the time of the attack.

As of the latest reports, no charges have been laid. The alleged offender will face court once charges are formally filed. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to piece together the sequence of events that led to this tragic outburst of violence.
