Violet Grohl’s Double Name Drop as She Launches Debut Album

A New Chapter for Violet Maye Grohl

Violet Maye Grohl has taken her first steps into the music industry just under two years after her father, Dave Grohl, revealed that he had secretly fathered a child, leading to a significant scandal within his family and betrayal of his second wife, Jordyn Blum Grohl. The 20-year-old, often referred to as a “nepo baby,” shared her journey with British Vogue, expressing how her father’s influence played a crucial role in her decision to pursue music.

“I wouldn’t have dived as deep into music without him,” she said. “I dreamed of this s*** when I was like, 12 years old.”

When Violet was a teenager, she asked her parents if she could drop out of high school to chase her dreams of becoming a musician, but they firmly declined. Meanwhile, Dave, the 57-year-old frontman of Foo Fighters, famously dropped out of high school at 17 with his late mother Virginia’s permission to tour with the hardcore band Scream.

This Friday, Violet will release her 11-track debut studio album, Be Sweet To Me, marking the start of her 16-date tour with a sold-out show at the Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles, California. Despite the excitement surrounding her new album, Dave has repeatedly emphasized that he had “absolutely nothing to do” with Violet’s album or her signing a record deal with Republic Records/Island EMI.

On The Late Show on May 4, Dave shared his thoughts on his daughter’s journey: “As I told Violet, I want her to really appreciate these early experiences, you know, like don’t wish any of this away and don’t get too ahead of yourself.” He encouraged her to be in the moment, emphasizing the importance of appreciating the present while building a foundation for future success.

Dave fondly recalled his time touring with Nirvana in the 90s, describing it as a “beautiful practical and emotional foundation for everything that came after.” He hopes Violet can experience similar growth and appreciation for her current path.

Violet has already made appearances with her father onstage, showcasing her talent through covers of Adele, Jeff Buckley, the punk band X, and Nirvana, including a powerful cover of All Apologies at the FireAid benefit concert, which raised $100 million last year.

In a recent performance at the BottleRock Napa Valley music festival, Dave delivered an awkward 50th birthday tribute to his wife, Jordyn, during Foo Fighters’ set. After “drinking from noon to midnight” all weekend, he attempted to bring her onstage but gave up, joking, “She’s probably drinking wine in the back. It doesn’t matter.”

Despite the challenges in their marriage, Dave and Blum have decided to work on salvaging their 22-year relationship. Dave publicly acknowledged his affair and secret love child with former mistress Jennifer Young in a September 10, 2024, Instagram post, stating, “I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.”

Additionally, Dave is alleged to have had relationships with God’s Girls founder Annaliese Neilsen between 2016 and 2019. His previous marriage to Jennifer Leigh Youngblood and relationship with Louise Post reportedly ended due to infidelity.

The Foo Fighters released their 12th studio album, Your Favorite Toy, on April 24, which peaked at number 23 on the US Billboard 200. Dave also enlisted his 17-year-old daughter, Harper Willow Grohl, to provide backing vocals on his new single, Your Favorite Toy, as well as illustrating the cover for their single, Today’s Song.

The band, known for pulling 22.8 million monthly listeners on Spotify, is scheduled to continue their 47-date Take Cover Tour, starting with a performance at Unity Arena in Oslo, Norway on June 10.
