A Thrilling Final Over Seals Hyderabad Kingsmen’s Place in the PSL Final
In a nail-biting encounter that had fans on the edge of their seats, Hyderabad Kingsmen secured a two-run victory over Islamabad United in their Pakistan Super League (PSL) playoff match held in Lahore. This win marked a remarkable turnaround for the team and set them up for a final showdown against Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi.
Defending a total of 186, Hyderabad found themselves in a precarious position going into the last over of the game. Islamabad United needed just one run per over to clinch the victory, and the contest was as balanced as could be. However, it was Hunain Shah who rose to the occasion with a controlled and disciplined performance in the final over, ensuring Hyderabad’s place in the final.
Shah delivered pinpoint yorkers throughout the last six deliveries, restricting the opposition batsmen to just three runs. More importantly, he took the crucial wicket of Faheem Ashraf, who was caught at mid-off while attempting to hit a big shot. Shah then maintained his composure, bowling a tidy line to prevent Imad Wasim and Chris Green from finishing the chase. The result was Islamabad United being left at 184/7, two runs short of the target.
Usman Khan’s Stellar Performance Sets the Stage
Earlier in the match, Usman Khan played a pivotal role with the bat for Hyderabad. He scored an unbeaten 61, marking his third consecutive half-century in the tournament. His composed innings provided a solid foundation for Hyderabad, helping them reach a formidable total of 186/5. Kusal Perera also contributed significantly with a quickfire 37 off 21 deliveries, adding valuable momentum to the team’s score.
Islamabad United made a strong comeback in the later stages of the match, thanks to the efforts of Chris Green and Faheem Ashraf. Their aggressive batting brought the target closer with every delivery, and they managed to score 22 runs off Mohammad Ali in the second-last over. This reduced the required runs to six for the final over.
A Spectacular Finale
The final over proved to be the turning point of the game, with Hunain Shah delivering a spectacular performance that sealed Hyderabad’s victory. The post-match celebrations were nothing short of electric, and Hyderabad captain Marnus Labuschagne was visibly overwhelmed by the achievement.
Labuschagne expressed his disbelief at the team’s performance, stating:
“I don’t have words to describe what we’ve done today. It looked like we were going to win relatively comfortably, and then all of a sudden it looked like it’s over. But Hunain Shah stepped in and went for what, three in the last over to win the game. I’ve got goosebumps just talking about it.”
Hyderabad’s Remarkable Comeback
Hyderabad’s resurgence this season has been nothing short of extraordinary. The franchise started the tournament with a losing streak, dropping their first four matches. However, they fought back strongly, winning seven of their last eight games. This included two crucial playoff victories over Multan Sultans and Islamabad United.
With their place in the final secured, Hyderabad will now face Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi in the grand finale of the PSL on Sunday. The stage is set for an exciting showdown between two of the most formidable teams in the tournament.
