A Hero’s Homecoming
The Under-19 World Cup-winning captain, Ayush Mhatre, was given a grand welcome at the Mumbai airport. A large crowd gathered to celebrate his return, showing their support for the young cricketer. His family members were also present, carrying bouquets and expressing their pride. Mhatre appeared overwhelmed by the warm reception, but the celebration only got better when he visited the home of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
A Special Meeting with Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar, a Mumbai-born icon, welcomed Ayush Mhatre at his home. During this special visit, Tendulkar presented Mhatre with his Test jersey, signed with a heartfelt message. The note read:
“Dear Ayush, wishing you all the success in your career.”
This gesture left Mhatre deeply moved, and he shared the moment on his Instagram account. He reflected on how he had grown up watching Tendulkar on television and now stood at his home, holding a piece of the legendary cricketer’s journey. Mhatre wrote:
“I grew up watching you through a screen. Today, I stand at your home, holding a piece of your journey in my hands. Thank you, Sir, for this honor. I will carry this with the same respect you carried Indian cricket for years.”
A Grand Welcome in Virar
Mhatre also received a grand welcome in Maharashtra’s Virar, where he was celebrated as a local hero. On February 9, he was taken through the streets of Virar in a rooftop car procession, with large crowds gathering to cheer him on. Fans brought flowers, and fireworks lit up the sky as patriotic slogans filled the air.
Upon arriving at his residence, his parents, Yogesh and Jagriti Mhatre, performed a traditional aarti to mark his significant homecoming. This event highlighted the deep admiration and pride the community felt for their hometown hero.
