Gujarat Titans’ opener, Sai Sudharsan, faced one of the most unfortunate dismissals in the Indian Premier League 2026 Qualifier 1 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Tuesday in Dharamshala.
With a daunting target of 255 runs to chase, Gujarat Titans needed a strong start to keep their hopes alive. It seemed that Sudharsan was on track to deliver just that, showcasing good form in the early stages of the innings. However, his promising knock came to an abrupt end in a bizarre and unexpected manner during the third over of the innings.
Sai Sudharsan’s Unlucky Dismissal
The incident happened when Royal Challengers Bengaluru bowler Jacob Duffy delivered a short-pitched ball outside the off-stump. Sudharsan attempted a cut shot, managing to guide the ball past the point fielder. However, as he completed the stroke, he lost grip of the bat, which rolled onto the stumps. Sudharsan stood frozen in disbelief in the middle of the ground, unable to comprehend how he had been dismissed in such a strange way.
The left-handed batter had scored 14 runs off nine deliveries, including three boundaries, before being sent back to the pavilion. This was the second hit-wicket dismissal of his career, adding to the challenges faced by Gujarat Titans in what was already a massive chase.
The rare nature of his dismissal only added to the difficulty for the team, as they now had to overcome an unprecedented target of 255 runs in the IPL playoffs. RCB had set a formidable total of 254/5 in the first innings, making the task even more daunting for the Gujarat Titans.
