Rudy Giuliani Hospitalized in Critical Condition
Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City and a prominent ally of former President Donald Trump, has been hospitalized in critical condition. The 81-year-old politician was admitted to a Florida hospital for an undisclosed illness. His spokesperson, Ted Goodman, released a statement expressing hope for Giuliani’s recovery.
“Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he’s fighting with that same level of strength as we speak,” Goodman said. He also asked the public to join in praying for Giuliani, whom he referred to as “America’s Mayor.”
Giuliani recently participated in a livestream on his Facebook page, where he could be heard coughing. During the broadcast, he mentioned that his voice was not at its best, saying, “My voice is a little under the weather so I won’t be able to speak as loudly as I usually do.”
President Trump expressed concern about Giuliani’s health on Truth Social, calling him a “True Warrior.” He stated, “Our fabulous Rudy Giuliani, a True Warrior, and the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR, has been hospitalized, and is in critical condition.”
Trump also criticized the Democratic Party, claiming they had treated Giuliani unfairly. “What a tragedy that he was treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL — AND HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!” he wrote. He then referenced Giuliani’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, accusing the Democrats of cheating and fabricating stories to undermine the nation.
Giuliani has been involved in several high-profile incidents in recent years. He commented on remarks made by comedian Jimmy Kimmel during the White House Correspondents Dinner, where Kimmel joked about First Lady Melania Trump having a “glow like an expectant widow.” Giuliani responded by calling Kimmel an “incompetent jackass,” prompting Kimmel to joke that Giuliani had “risen from the grave to weigh in on the ongoing drama.”
In November 2022, Giuliani was pardoned by Trump along with other Republicans for his role in trying to overturn the election results against President Joe Biden. Earlier that year, he delivered a controversial speech outside the Four Seasons landscaping business in Pennsylvania, where Trump was attempting to regain the presidency.
In 2023, Giuliani filed for bankruptcy, revealing staggering debts of $153 million owed to creditors, including two Georgia election workers he defamed. He disclosed in court documents that he had less than $10 million in assets after being ordered to pay $148 million in damages to Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss for falsely claiming they rigged the vote for former President Joe Biden.
Under the terms of the settlement, Giuliani was allowed to keep his condo in West Palm Beach. He reported having between $100 million and $500 million in liabilities and $1 million to $10 million in assets.
Former New York City mayor Eric Adams shared a message on social media, wishing Giuliani a speedy recovery. “Mayor Giuliani devoted his life to this city, from his days as a federal prosecutor to leading New York through 9/11. He was there when we needed him most. I’m praying for Rudy and his family and hoping for a full recovery. We shared a cigar in Florida not too long ago. I’m saving one for when you’re back home, my friend.”
Giuliani was elected mayor of New York City in 1993 after serving as a high-profile prosecutor, targeting mobsters and corrupt Wall Street traders. He gained recognition for his crime-fighting initiatives, including the “broken windows” philosophy and the controversial stop and frisk program.
He ran for the U.S. Senate in 2000 but withdrew from the race against Hillary Clinton after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.
